It has just been announced that Academy Award nominee Colin Farrell will be starring in the upcoming HBO Max series, The Penguin.

Fans can finally meet 'the new kingpin of Gotham' as The Banshees of Inisherin star gets ready to take on the iconic villain role in the new Matt Reeves series which is finally in production.

Farrell looks almost entirely unrecognisable in the trailer for the next chapter in the famed Batman saga.

The eight-episode spin-off series will focus on Farrell's titular Gotham City gangster.

Other cast members include the likes of Cristin Milioti, Rhenzy Feliz, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo and Deirdre O’Connell, with Clancy Brown and Michael Zegen recurring.

HBO Max

The long-anticipated series follows the transformation of Oswald Cobblepot, a once-disfigured nobody who transforms into one of Gotham City's most notable gangsters.

The show is produced in association with Warner Bros. Television.

It's fair to say fans are already going wild for the series to finally hit their screens.

The teaser trailer, which was only uploaded to Twitter less than an hour ago today (12 April), has already received a staggering 208.9k views and counting at the time of writing.

With thousands upon thousands of comments, likes and retweets - it's clear that DC fans couldn't wait to share their reactions to the big reveal.

One Twitter user commented: "The Batman universe expanding is so f***ing exciting.

"Always wanted a standalone Batman universe that builds across other characters in the Batman lore."

A second added: "I'm all in, Colin's performance looks amazing."

It sure does.

HBO Max

"THIS ALREADY LOOKS INCREDIBLE," exclaimed a third, clearly excited fan, while a fourth revealed: "Yep. Def watching this."

Another wrote: "It looks so good. I cannot f***ing wait.:

"OMG!!" praised another fan, "This looks exactly as I had hoped! Bring on 2024."

Bring it on indeed.

A final Twitter user penned: "This looks AMAZING.

"Excellent visual atmosphere like Arkham and iconic mafia movies style," they continued before calling the upcoming series 'easily the most anticipated comic book series in next year'.

With the exciting new addition to the DC universe just a year away - it's clear that next year couldn't come any sooner.

The Penguin will be coming to HBO Max at some point in 2024.
