Bartender reveals the trick they pull when a customer asks for stronger drinks

It may come as a shock

Now, if you've ever worked behind a bar, you'll know one of the most common things you'll be asked by customers is that they're after a little more bang for their buck.

It seems to be a fairly common occurrence for punters to ask bartenders for stronger drinks - despite the standardised measurements used for making cocktails.

American bartender Ben Smith, who goes by the handle @benjispears, has since come to the rescue and taken to TikTok to share with his 1.5 million followers exactly how he navigates the all-too-relatable problem. Have a look:

The video skit begins by another trainee bartender being informed by someone off camera: "My customer said that their strawberry margarita is not strong enough.

"They want, like, more alcohol in it… No, they don’t wanna pay," the server explained.

This is when Ben, standing next to the trainee, unlocked the vault of hospitality industry secrets.

"So do you know what to do in this situation?" he began.

The trainee then blasted an extra shot of sour mix into the drink, which Ben clearly approved of, but went on to explain all the other bits and bobs he'll routinely do on top of that in a similar situation.

He continued: "What I would do first is I would switch the glassware.

"A lot of the time, the guest just wants to be heard. So we’re just gonna switch the glass and she’s gonna think it’s perfectly better."

The bartender gave a step-by-step demonstration on how he handles the issue.

He then 'throws out' the remaining remnants of the previous drink that wouldn't fit in the new glass, adds 'a little more sour' and some fancy garnish.

"Let me grab another lime," he went on, "We'll give her two limes to make her really feel like we love her."

Ben then throws a nice straw in and voilà!

The TikTok's caption read: "I don’t think I need to train her, do I?!?!"

The short clip has since gone viral after clocking up more than five million views on the platform with over 475.k likes and hundreds upon hundreds of comments from people eager to share their reactions to the top tip.

Many found the trick absolutely hilarious, with one TikTok user writing: "Lmao it literally has less alcohol you threw some of it away!"

Bartender, Ben Smith, shared his viral hack on how to deal with picky punters.

"The fact that they lost some alcohol but thinks it's better," penned a second with a series of laughing emojis.

A third commented: "Lol they order a super sweet cocktail then complain they can’t taste the tequila!"

"I will forever never trust a bartender again," revealed a fourth with even more laughing emojis, "but I get it."

After being made aware of the trick, another admitted: "I will never send back a drink again ever!"

Other bartender veterans, however, even went as far as to offer yet another hack known as the 'straw trick' when it comes to picky punters.

One revealed: "I just pour some booze in the straw!"

"Put a splash in the straw," added a second, "works every time!"

A third revealed: "I put alcohol on the straw along with doing all that as well!"

Reckon you've ever been on the receiving end of the 'straw trick'?
