Jet skier learns a harsh lesson after getting too close to a cargo ship

He has shown us all why you shouldn't do it.

This jet skier had to learnt exactly why you shouldn't ride a jet ski too close to a cargo ship, the hard way.

You know what they say - don't ride your jet ski too close to the cargo ship.

Or at least, it should be common knowledge, despite some people on social media thinking otherwise.

One particular jet skier decided to find out exactly what happens when you ride too close to an incredibly heavy, powerful cargo ship in the little machine.

A jet ski is a personal watercraft, best known for those times you're feeling a bit adventurous on holiday and want to ride around a few hundred metres from the shore.

They can weigh anywhere between 180-540kg with most models maxing out at 70mph.

It can be a lot of fun crashing through the waves on the open water, feeling the wind through your hair at the same speed you would normally travel in your car.

However, what were to happen exactly if you rode out shore to ships passing by and, you know, went directly next to them?

Isn't it obvious to stay away from massive boats.

Well wonder no longer, as this TikTok reveals exactly why you're better off sticking to the rules and staying near the shore.

In a video that's been doing the rounds on social media for the past few years, the jet skier can be seen accelerating TOWARDS the colossal cargo ship, with the intention of touching it maybe? I have no idea.

As he begins to get closer, the jet ski clearly begins to fight a losing battle against the waves caused by the ship.

He managed to get his hand on the cargo ship, shortly before getting sucked into the water due to the propellers under it.

Luckily, he comes out seemingly unscathed on the other side, before - accelerating towards the ship again? Wow.

For reference, the average cargo ship weighs around 165,000 tons and is propelled by around 40,000-100,000 horsepower.

But how did it get sucked in?

Basically the jet ski was sucked underwater due to water around the ship being less dense, which is caused by the propellers, which combine air with water to make the boat go.

In other words - steer clear of 400 metre long vessels in the future.

He was lucky he didn't get injured.

Viewers were baffled in the comments of the video.

One user commented: "Sooo.... what did he think was gonna happen"

Another said: "That’s not just too close, that’s like…don’t try and touch a ship."

A third put: "You are lucky to get out of that most things that close get sucked under the ship"

A fourth posted: "Bro at the end start driving right back to the cargo ship."
