Tom Holland was born in 1996 in South West London, where he lived with his parents and his three younger brothers. Tom began his career as a dancer, starting this hobby at the age of nine at a dance school in Wimbledon.
It was here he was spotted by a choreographer of Billy Elliot the Musical. After an audition and two years of training, Tom won the part of the protagonist's best friend and took to the stage on his debut performance at the West End’s Victoria Palace Theatre in 2008. Later on that year he was given the main part of Billy Elliot in the musical and earned himself recognition from a young age.
Tom then transitioned to the film industry, making his debut in 2012 when he starred in the disaster drama The Impossible, where his performance of a tourist trapped in a tsunami earned him a London Film Critics Circle Award for the Young British Performer of the Year.
