Last night we got a brand new The Batman trailer with Robert Pattinson taking on the iconic character. However, while it was our first glimpse of Pattinson as the Dark Knight, many fans were unable to get past the transformation Colin Farrell underwent to become the Penguin.

Farrell looked completely unrecognisable while wearing prosthetics as Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin, so much so, that some viewers completely missed him.

Taking to social media, one person wrote: "Erm.... woke up to the new Batman trailer but trying to get my brain around the fact that THIS IS COLIN FARRELL."

Another person wrote: "The craziest thing about The Batman trailer is that this is Colin Farrell."

While a third comic-book fan added: "Pattinson looks great, in and out of the suit. And holy s***, we are getting full on Zodiac for The Riddler and it is PERFECT! And Colin Farrell is transformed as The Penguin!"

Farrell has previously teased that his character has some 'tasty scenes' in the upcoming flick.

In an interview with GMA News, Farrell revealed he was itching to back to filming, saying: "I had only started it and I can't wait to get back. The creation of it, the aesthetic of the character, has been fun and I really am so excited to get back and explore it.

"And I haven't got that much to do. I have a certain amount in the film. I am not all over it by any means. But there are a couple of some tasty scenes I have in it and my creation and I can't wait to get back.

"Yeah, I totally feel like it is something that I have not had the opportunity to explore before. It feels original and fun. But I am only at the start of the journey so I can't wait to get back and really get into it."

And it seems as though Farrell has already got the seal of approval from fellow Cobblepot/Penguin star Danny DeVito - who starred as the character in 1992's Batman Returns.

Speaking to Collider, DeVito said: "I haven't spoken to him since, but I'm really looking forward to it. I think that no matter what, he's gonna be great because he's a great actor.

"The only thing he has to worry about is that Oswald Cobblepot will show up at his house..." before making his classic Penguin grunt.

The Batman is set to hit cinemas in October next year.
