When the trailer for the new Gavin & Stacey festive special dropped at the weekend our excitement pretty much went into overdrive. Well, now we've all had a chance to re-watch the trailer approximately 200 times, some of you reckon you've spotted some interesting little details - including someone who could be Gavin and Stacey's son.

You may remember that in the final episode of season three, Stacey joyously announced she was pregnant after she struggled to conceive with Gavin. Then, as six-month flash-forward at the end of the episode showed a heavily pregnant Stacey, enjoying a day at the beach with Gavin, Nessa and Smithy.

Sharing the trailer, one person wrote on Twitter: "Hang on. Is that boy running and hugging Pam Neil the baby [Smithy and Nessa's son] or is it Gavin and Stacey's kid?"

Running towards Pam 22 seconds into the trailer, there he is: some random little blonde dude.

Another also tweeted a similar observation, but pointed out there's another person the young boy could be.

They wrote: "OH. MY. GOD. THE KID HUGGING PAM IS EITHER NESSA AND SMITHY'S NEIL OR GAVIN AND STACEY'S SMALL AND HOW IS HE SO OLD?!"

A third asked: "Question is: This Neil the baby or Gavin and Stacey's kid???"

Or is it another kid altogether? Is it just one of Pam and Mick's random neighbours? Does Uncle Bryn have an illegitimate lovechild no one knew about? Is it Gavin as a child time-travelling to the future?

Okay, a few of those seem fairly unlikely, but the long and short of it is we probably won't know for sure until the big day comes around.

In the press release issued when the hour-long special was announced back in May, co-writers James Corden and Ruth Jones weren't giving much away - simply saying they've 'loved revisiting Barry and Essex again', and that bringing the characters back together has been a 'joy'.

The pair did say they'd spent the last 10 years talking a lot about Gavin and Stacey, including 'where they might be today and what their lives might look like,' so hopefully that counts as a good sign. After all, with a decade to drum up ideas for a reunion, there must be some juicy stuff in there.

The Gavin & Stacey Christmas special will air at 8.30pm on BBC One on 25 December.
