Anne Hathaway has given fans a glimpse of the horror that they can expect when she dons the guise of the Grand High Witch in the remake of The Witches.

The 37-year-old actor shared a short video in which she revealed the terrifying transformation that she'll be making, including an absolutely horrendous set of teeth and a wide grin that The Joker would be proud of.

Academy Award winner Hathaway, who has previously starred in The Devil Wears Prada and The Princess Diaries, is completely unrecognisable in the short vid that she shared with her 18.5 million or so Instagram followers.

Sharing the clip, which also featured a few teasers from the forthcoming film, Hathaway wrote: "What has a witch ever done to you?"

Also featured in the short video are co-stars Octavia Spencer, Jahzir Bruno and Stanley Tucci.

It shows some of the stars of the movie telling fans how they can spot a witch, should the need ever arise.

Spencer said: "The witches wear long gloves up to their elbows."

Witches also 'don't have hands; they have claws', apparently.

Tucci added that witches can be identified because they have 'larger nostrils than most'.

Kadeem then pointed out that witches 'don't have any toes'.

Right, we're starting to build up a picture here. They'll probably be recognisable by the mortifying wide grin and filed-down teeth, too.

The movie, which is to be released ahead of Halloween, is a remake of the classic 1990s film of the same name, which is in turn based on a Roald Dahl story.

Hathaway is stepping into the shoes of Anjelica Huston, who gave an iconic performance in the original as the Grand High Witch.

It's a straight-up remake, directed by Robert Zemeckis, and follows the exact same plot, which is to say, a coven of witches is discovered that is trying to turn kids into mice.

It was actually supposed to have been out by now, but - and you'll never guess why - it has been delayed until towards the end of October.

If you're dead keen to see how terrifying Hathaway's performance is compared to Huston's, you can get stuck in on 26 October on Premium Video On Demand (PVOD) in the UK and on HBO Max from 22 October in the US.

At least you'll be somewhat prepared for the big reveal after this video.
