Hitman's Bodyguard 2 Gets Release Date

Hitman's Bodyguard 2 Gets Release Date

He's everywhere isn't he, Ryan Reynolds, and now we finally have a release date for his second major film of the year.

The Hitman's Bodyguard 2, or The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard to call it its official name will be released on 28 August 2020.

It's the sequel to the 2017 film which, you'll be surprised to hear was called The Hitman's Bodyguard, which grossed $177 million worldwide ($75 million of it in the US), which was quite a surprise when it was given a reported budget of $30 million.

The sequel marks Reynolds' second big film of the year after the release of his other film, Free Guy, which comes out on 3 July.

The follow up to the 2017 action-comedy hints that Jacksons' onscreen wife Hayek will be getting a protector for herself.

It was announced in November last year that the crime fighting duo of Jackson and Reynolds would be back, much to fans' excitement.

But in even better news, it seems as though Morgan Freeman will be joining the already stacked cast list.

As yet there are no details about the character Freeman is set to play, but this time around the film will reportedly see hitman Darius Kincaid (played by Jackson) and wife Sonia (Hayek) go on a mission to the Amalfi Coast in Italy, with bodyguard Michael Bryce (Reynolds), of course.

Also signed up for the new movie is Marvel Cinematic Universe star Frank Grillo, who is rumoured to play an Interpol agent. Patrick Hughes will be back as director, working with a script by Tom O'Connor again.

The news was confirmed after posters were spotted at Cannes Film Festival, with the tagline: "The Good. The bad. And the batshit cray," according to Digital Spy.

And his other predicted hit of next year, Free Guy is actually his favourite film that he's made so far.

He introduced the new trailer at Comic Con Experience (CCXP) in Brazil last weekend, where he revealed just how much he enjoyed making it.

Speaking to the audience, he said: "We really wanted to bring to the world a modern day Back to the Future for modern generations.

"Free Guy is my favourite movie I've ever made, and that means a lot to me because I made Deadpool."

Free Guy certainly looks like a lot of fun - it sees Reynolds play an office worker called Guy with a mundane job in a bank, who soon starts to realise that he is an NPC. That stands for 'non-player character' and is what the people in games who are essentially computer generated extras are called.

Free Guy will be released in the UK on 3 July 2020.
