The adventures of loveable stoners Harold Lee and Kumar Patel could be set to continue with a fourth movie - if Kal Penn (Kumar) gets his way.

Co-star John Cho (Harold) and writers Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg are all also up for a fourth outing according to Penn - with the caveat that they may not be able to make it for some time due to their busy schedules. Nothing official has been confirmed as yet.

Penn told Variety: "We would love to do a fourth movie. John Cho and I text about it all the time. Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg - who created and wrote all three movies in the franchise - we all would love to do one. I think we all, thankfully, have the blessing of being really busy right now and want to find the right venue and the right timing."

Even better, you most likely won't have to leave the comfort of your own home to watch it, as Penn is eager for it to land straight on a streaming service.

He said: "I feel like it's gotta be a streamer because people just love watching [these movies] in the comfort of their own home on a Friday night at 2 a.m., which is more streaming 'binge-able' than it is going to the theatre."

Harold and Kumar have so far stumbled their way through three films. Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle (2004) sees the pair's quest for a White Castle burger frustrated by racist police officers, a runaway cheetah and Neil Patrick Harris.

Sequel Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay (2008) sees the stoner buddies imprisoned over a terrorism mix-up, while A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas involved a hunt for a replacement Christmas tree after their first one was set alight by a stray joint.

This isn't the first time Penn has teased Harold and Kumar's return. Last year he told /Film that he and Cho were planning to meet with Hurwitz and Schlossberg to toss around ideas for a fourth movie.

He said: "John and I both have our own things this year so I think our hope is towards the end of the year, we'd like to toss something around and see what might work.

"I would consider myself lucky if I had the chance to make Harold and Kumar 15 when I'm 70 years old."

No plot details for the mooted fourth instalment have been revealed yet. Will Harold and Kumar have matured, or will they still be up to their old tricks? Can we expect Neil Patrick Harris to make another scene-stealing appearance?

Here's hoping all will be revealed soon.
