Nurse Knits Baby Yoda Santa Hats For New-Born Babies In Hospital

After the runaway success of Disney's Star Wars TV series The Mandalorian, a hospital in the USA decided to jump on the bandwagon to adorable effect by dressing a load of the new-borns up as Baby Yoda for Christmas.

One of the nurses at UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, likes to knit little hats for some of the babies on the new-born ward.

The hospital went viral on World Kindness Day in November when she dressed the babies up in outfits themed on kids' TV presenter Mr Rogers, now she's turned them into everyone's favourite pint-sized Jedi.

You've got to say, Caitlin Pechin - the nurse responsible - has a talent for it. The little Santa hats even have their own green ears sticking out of the side of them.

Pechin, who works in the mother and baby unit at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, said: "I made Santa hats with green ears to represent an alien, out of this world Christmas.

"Everyone really likes the theme."

The parents are made up about it, too.

Briana and Sean McGowan, who've just welcomed their son Jackson into the world, were thrilled to see him don the now-famous Star Wars character's signature ears.

Sean said: "We've been laughing ever since we watched The Mandalorian when it came out.

"[Briana] looked at me and was like, 'I want one'. I was like, 'Well, you're gonna get a baby soon. We'll try to find a Baby Yoda'."

Well, that dream came true sooner than they could ever have hoped.

Briana continued: "We've had the best experience here ever.

"[Jackson's] done so well and we credit it to having our baby here, absolutely."

Naturally, the costumes have gone down a treat on social media. Since the photos were shared to Facebook, loads of people have commented on how cute they are, and some people are even suggesting having a baby so they can knit a similar hat.

One wrote: "My heart can't take it."

Another said: "Maybe we will get a baby Yoda in our family soon,"

The hospital's Chief Nursing Officer Patty Genday is, quite understandably, a big fan of the tradition and the spotlight it throws on the good work the hospital does.

She said: "We love celebrating the birth of our babies with their families and it's just wonderful to see our parents look at their babies in these adorable little outfits and share them with everyone.

"It's just a great experience for them."
