Rupert Grint has shattered a record set by Sir David Attenborough by becoming the fastest person to reach one million followers on Instagram.

The Harry Potter star managed to reach the milestone in just four hours and one minute, that's a full 43 minutes quicker than Sir Dave, and 241 minutes in total.

His new followers were treated to a lovely photo of the 32-year-old actor posing with his baby daughter Wednesday, and a joke about him being just ten years behind everyone else in joining the social media platform.

He wrote: "Hey Instagram....only 10 years late, but here I am. Grint on the Gram! Here to introduce you all to Wednesday G. Grint. Stay safe, Rupert."

Some of his fellow Hogwarts alumni have chimed in to express their delight at Grint getting on board, with Draco Malfoy himself - Tom Felton in the muggle world - writing: "Welcome Weasley, it's about time. Love to Wednesday xx"

That's not very Slytherin of him, but whatever.

On top of that, he also shared another Harry Potter connection, as his profile picture shows Dame Maggie Smith - who played Professor Minerva McGonagall - kissing him on the cheek.

Grint, who was born in Harlow, is actually no stranger to Guinness World Records, having been involved in one of the biggest film franchises of all time, which holds a number of spots in the hallowed book.

The franchise holds the highest grossing fantasy film of all time record, as well as a couple of others.

Oh, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - the book, that is - holds the record for fastest selling book in 24 hours.

The previous record holder, naturalist and TV presenter Attenborough, only held the record for a relatively short time, joining the Insta world in September 2020 and gaining one million followers in four hours and 44 minutes.

It's not bad, but it's no Rupert Grint.

Previous holders of the record have included people such as the Pope Francis, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, David Beckham, and Jennifer Aniston.

There's some fairly huge names on that list, but Grint managed to get to the finishing line quicker than them all.

It remains to be seen who could break his record, as most celebrities already have Instagram, but we'll have to wait and see.

After hitting the million mark, Grint's followers only continued to grow, and he's now well over two million, having attracted followers such as Ariana Grande and - interestingly enough - Sir David Attenborough.

Did anyone else have Sir David down as a secret Potterhead?
