A man who won a whopping £1 million on Ant and Dec's Red or Black? has blamed the game show for ruining his life.

In 2011 Nathan Hageman appeared on the short-lived ITV series and claimed the major cash prize, however the 46-year-old has now said that his friends and family turned on him after the win.

After his winnings disappeared Hageman turned to criminal activities in order to get by, ending up in and out of prison over the next 15 years.

He now has a string of charges behind him and is facing a sentencing later this year after being convicted of threatening a friend, Jason Gollop, after moving to Scotland to rebuild his life.

Hageman had moved to East Ayrshire, Scotland in order to live with Gollop, who gave him work at his plastering firm.

However the plan unravelled when the pair fell out, with Hageman later pleading guilty to sending threats to Gollop and his pet dog.

Ahead of his sentencing later this year, Hageman admitted to Daily Record that winning Red or Black? was the worst moment of his life.

"Winning that show was the worst thing that ever happened to me," he told the outlet.

"There were so many stories published after it about me, but all the stories that were told were exaggerated or made up. I never got to tell my side of any of it or how any of it affected me."

He went on to explain that he was then harassed by people who wanted his money, adding: "I got blackmailed and threatened by people who knew me because they knew I had money. I got blackmailed by an ex-partner, while my friends ended up threatening and blackmailing myself and my mother."

Prior to appearing on the series, Hageman had been jailed for five years after being convicted of domestic violence in 2006, appearing on the Ant and Dec show shortly after being released from prison.

Shortly after Hageman's criminal past came to light a spokesperson for ITV said its 'hands were tied' when it came to paying out his winnings at the time, via The Guardian and that stricter background checks would be brought in.

In 2014 he would later be convicted of sending 400 threatening texts to a woman in 48 hours while in 2024 he was jailed for 12 weeks after being convicted of stealing a nurse's handbag.

He was also reported four a double dine-and-dash scam at two restaurants in Scotland, however these were settled outside of court.
