A bloke who brought an old watch onto Antiques Roadshow was stunned to discover just how much it was worth.
He explained that the watch had been given to his dad as a gift and that he'd inherited it a few years ago, not because his father had died, but just because his dad thought he might do something with it.
At first, the man put it in a drawer, but eventually, curiosity got the better of him, and he ended up appearing on Antiques Roadshow, where he was told that the watch was a very valuable Rolex Oyster GMT Master.

The watch had been sold in Hong Kong in 1971 for HK$1,040, or about £200, and the 'full set' of paperwork was still present alongside the Rolex.
Getting it appraised by show expert Richard Price, he was told that a watch that was worth £200 about 50 years ago could have been worth around £20,000 today, except for one thing.
Sadly, it turned out that the watch strap was not original and was a 'service replacement', so the Rolex wouldn't be worth that much.
The man who brought it in was clearly disappointed to hear that it wouldn't be £20,000, but his mood soon changed when he learned how much he could get for it.

Even with a different strap, however, the watch was still deemed to be worth 'around £14,000', leaving the bloke stunned and overjoyed to learn what a valuable thing he'd been given.

"What? Woah, no way!" was about all he could say as the information sunk in, and when Price asked if he was happy, he could just about get the word 'yeah' out along with a chuckle.
While the watch displayed some signs of wear and tear, it was over 50 years old by this point and had been kept in remarkably good condition.
He's not the only one to take an old watch into Antiques Roadshow and be very pleased to learn exactly what it's worth.

In another episode of the show, Richard Price got a good look at a Submariners Rolex and delivered the happy news that the watch, which had originally been bought for £132, was worth about £20,000 these days.

Meanwhile, he delivered the happy news to the owner of an Omega Speedmaster that this incredibly rare find could be auctioned off for as much as £40,000, a watch that had been bought for just £45 back in the day.
A man who appeared on the US version of the show with an old Rolex he'd bought for $345 back in 1974 actually passed out when he was told it was worth as much as $700,000 because it had not been worn.
