Baywatch is back with a reboot and it’s reviving some of its original characters for the new season.
The show originally aired in 1989 and was actually cancelled after just one season on NBC, but survived through syndication and went on to become the most-watched TV show in the world with a global audience of more than a billion people each week.
The drama series centred on a group of lifeguards patrolling the beaches of Los Angeles and made stars out of the likes of Pamela Anderson, Yasmine Bleeth and David Hasselhoff.
The show ran as Baywatch for a decade until 1999, after which it had a rebrand and location change to Baywatch: Hawaii, which ran until 2001.

It also spawned the spin-off series Baywatch Nights between 1995 and 1997, and a 2017 movie adaption.
Now, Fox has released the trailer for its reboot series, which is set to air in January next year, and fans of the original will be pleased to note that not only does it pack in just as much drama but there’s also some familiar faces.
The three-minute long clip shows Hobie Buchannon (played Stephen Amell) as the Baywatch lifeguard captain, who has his life thrown into turmoil thanks to the arrival of his adult biological daughter Charlie Vale (played by Jessica Belkin), who rocks up hoping to get herself a job as a lifeguard.
In keeping with the original, the trailer also features the cast in the iconic red swimsuit and some nostalgic slow-motion runs along the beach.
Viewers are also treated to a daring rescue scene, which shows the team bravely rushing into the water to rescue a couple of girls who have been hit by a plane while parasailing.
See? we told you it was going to be dramatic.
Alongside Amell and Belkin, the upcoming series also stars Shay Mitchell, Noah Beck, Brooks Nader and Livvy Dunne, there’s even a cameo from Megan Thee Stallion.
The reboot will also see some of the original cast reprising their roles.
David Chokachi will be returning as Cody Madison, as well as Kelly Packard, who played April Giminski, and Michael Bergin, who starred as Jack “J.D.” Darius.
According to Fox, Chokachi’s return will see Cody running ‘the Shoreline, the unofficially official Baywatch bar-and-grill, and still puts on the red trunks for the occasional shift saving lives. He’s a mentor to and a friend, providing a second home for his fellow lifeguards… and always offering free wings after a big save’.

Sounds like a handy guy to know.
While a trio of original cast members have been confirmed for the reboot, it seems that one of the show’s most legendary characters won’t be back.
Pamela Anderson, who played C.J. Parker from 1992 to 1997, recently told Deadline she hadn’t been approached about making a return.
“No one’s reached out to me,” she said.
“I don’t know much about it.”
Interestingly, Anderson went on to say that her sons Brandon Lee and Dylan Lee had been approached about working behind the scenes.
“I know that they were talking to my sons at some point about producing, but I don’t think they had a meeting of the minds,” she said.
“I’m not sure what happened there, but I wish them well.”
