Here is the surprising aftermath which followed a contestant vomiting at the thought of partner swapping during an episode of explicit Channel 4 series, Open House: The Great Sex Experiment.

The NSFW show does pretty much what it says on the tin. Couples are invited to stay in a luxury retreat and test out whether or not they can benefit from a non-monogamous relationship.

It's one of the many jewels in the crown of Channel 4's sex and relationship programmes, sitting alongside the likes of Virgin Island and gameshow Naked Attraction, proving there are plenty of Brits who are more than happy to explore the ins and outs of their intimate relationships on national television.

Open House provides plenty of viral moments for viewers to enjoy as well, such as childhood sweethearts experimenting with threesomes and a man enjoying a six woman orgy in a yurt.

In the most recent episode, couple Tom and Lauren joined the retreat to see if couple swapping can inject some spice into their relationship.

The idea appears to quickly overwhelm Tom, who ended up running off to the toilet in order to throw up after hearing the idea from non-monogamy coach Effy Blue.

"This is going to be horrible," Tom explained to his partner afterward, adding: "I feel absolutely petrified and sick."

But what happened to the couple after the viral clip? Were Tom and Lauren able to go through with their partner swapping or was the idea just too much?

If you're thinking - given the fact that the idea of partner swapping alone was enough to send Tom rushing to the loo - the couple's time in the house was short-lived, then you'd be wrong.

Later on in the episode it was revealed that Tom was not only able to hold his nerve and partake in the partner swap, but actually enjoyed the experiment.

After doing the deed, Lauren goes to check-in on her partner and discovers that he's on cloud nine, which the experience changing his outlook on sex and relationships.

"As you can tell with the smile on my face, it's been a happy ending," Tom told the camera in his first interview after getting intimate with another woman.

"[I] don't know what happened, it just felt right."

"The changes in you in the last 12 hours have been nuts," Lauren added.

Following the partner swapping escapade, the couple exited the house with a newfound sense of security in their relationship.

Describing their overall experience in the house, Tom said he'd been left feeling 'buzzing', 'magical' and 'giddy'.

"When you couple swap, it's the after-effect which brings you closer," he explained, to which Lauren added: "We're now excited about leaving here and continuing with the non-monogamy."

Open House: The Great Sex Experiment airs on Friday on Channel 4 at 10pm.
