We are five episodes into the new season of Euphoria and a clear trend has formed from nearly every episode of the show: having to rush to Google what was going on in the numerous explicit kink-filled scenes of the HBO show.
Euphoria season one and two were Skins-like, portraying young people living messy complicated lives involving sex, drugs, and alcohol.
Season three however has dialled up the insanity of the show to 11, with Zendaya’s Rue working as a drugs runner out of a strip club, Sydney Sweeney’s Cassie becoming an OnlyFans star, and Jacob Elordi’s Nate having body parts cut off him by gangster he owes money to on multiple occasions now.
Add to that Hunter Schafer’s Jules becoming an escort and it is clear that the new season of Euphoria is not holding anything back, something that has been made even clearer with an incredibly explicit Cassie scene in the newest episode.
Why is Sydney Sweeney’s Cassie engaging in ‘Macrophilia’ in Euphoria’s newest episode?

Advert
Euphoria’s newest instalment has an incredibly X-rated scene that has led to fans calling the episode ‘full-on insane’.
The episode continues the storyline of Cassie finding success on OnlyFans, now with the help of Maddy.
A brief montage shows her continuing to up the severity of her content as she becomes more popular, leading to her engaging in a one-on-one session with one of her subscribers.
The session sees Cassie become a giant woman, pressing her breasts up against the man’s window and breaking it. Before you worry that this is Euphoria going fully Sci-fi, this is just a representation of a kink called Macrophilia.
What is 'Macrophilia' and why do people enjoy it?
Also known as a ‘Giantess’ kink, this involves people who are sexually aroused by the concept of a massive person towering over them.
Whilst the average person may have never heard of this, it’s surprisingly common, with it being the most searched kink online in 2023. Speaking to Cosmopolitan to explain macrophilia, sociologist Sarah Melancon PhD, a clinical sexologist, said: “Macrophilia is a term describing sexual fantasies related to giant persons, whether male (giant) or female (giantess)… if we consider how often giant and giantess-type stories appear in our culture, it isn’t surprising that some people find these themes erotic.”

Speaking in the same article, Pam Shaffer MFT, said: “It centres around the erotic feeling of being ‘helpless’ as the giantess dominates those beneath her, forcing them into sexual slavery or crushing them with her strength.”
What has Sydney Sweeney said about the X-Rated scene?
Sweeney acts this out as Cassie in the new scene and, whilst there is a growing online sentiment that the actors behind this new season must secretly hate the sexual storylines, Sydney Sweeney has actually stated it was ‘the coolest thing’ she’s ever done.
The controversial actor said in a new behind-the-scenes video: “The Cassie-Zilla sequence was probably the coolest thing I’ve ever done.”
Marcell Rév, the director of photography for the show, explained that they tried to mimic the classic Attack of the 50 Foot Woman and Godzilla films, whilst creator and showrunner Sam Levinson explained that creating the miniatures for the scene took a full year.
Sweeney added that the details of the miniature set was 'unbelievable', but added regarding Cassie: "I think she knows what she is choosing and what she is going to sacrifice to give herself over to Hollywood [and become famous]."
Euphoria season three, episode five, is available to stream now on HBO Max.
