Everything tonight’s winner of I’m A Celeb will get for coming first in public vote

Being crowned the winner has got to feel good after weeks of eating rice and beans

We're almost at the end of I’m a Celeb and that can only mean one thing: Someone is going to be crowned the King or Queen of The Jungle.

From Bushtucker Trials to sleeping in a spider-infested camp, the celebrities who opt to go into the Aussie location know what they’re in for: rice and beans and a whole lot of uncomfortability.

However, if they are able to rise through the ranks to be the last one standing on the reality show, they could be set up with unmatched fame for a bit or like last year’s winner, Sam Thompson, just the glowing feeling that comes from knowing the British public like you the best.

Each year, the I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! winners are seen displaying the best entertainment and strength throughout the trials and horrid living conditions.

Once crowned, they’re then given an actual crown and a staff before plopping on a throne to show everyone that they’ve earned the title.

While there’s no cash prize where the winner gets a lump sum for winnings, they do get cash to appear on the show.

This could be anything from like £30,000 to £900,000 as the campmates are all paid differently.

Is it fair? It depends on who you ask.

You’re probably shouldn’t expect an influencer to be paid the same amount of money as an Olympian or an Olympian to be paid what a known actor is paid.

It’s all about who is more famous, surely.

For example, Mo Farah reportedly was paid £300,000 for appearing on the show, Strictly’s AJ Pritchard was apparently paid £50,000 and Caitlyn Jenner pocketed £500,000.

While it’s not a prize per se, it is a lot of money for a few weeks of ‘work’.

I’d take a year’s supply of Doritos chili heat wave crisps and rainbow drops to do it, but that’s just me.

Oh, and I’d like to take my kindle in there (I’m willing to barter).

Anyway, there’s no cash prize for the winners, but there’s a lot of other things that come from appearing on the show.

Like clout.

There’s nothing like eating live insects on national television to revive a stagnant career.

Or to kickstart a new career.

While it’s probably not as prominent as Love Island for raking in the brand deals for its contestants, it’s definitely giving the celebs some well-needed screen time.

Harry Redknapp, who won in 2018, went on to act in a Jam Roly Poly advert for GoDaddy, and he was the face of McDonald’s advertisements with his son Jamie.

TV chef Gino D’Acampo won in 2009 but wasn’t particularly known to British audiences until his time in the jungle.

Now, he’s a star and loved by all.

Stacey Solomon won in 2010 and went on to do an advertising campaign with Iceland, a dating show on Sky Living, and present the I’m a Celebrity spin-off, Extra Camp.

He also held a regular slot on Loose Women.

So, it does pay off.
