Come Dine With Me’s iconic ‘what a sad little life Jane’ scene in which a man lambasts his dinner guest for winning the prize over him has become a core part of UK TV history. If TV viewers online are to be believed, the next generation’s version of this incredible scene happened on Channel 4 over the weekend.
Channel 4 air Four in a Bed a show in which bed and breakfast owners go head-to-head to try and prove that their B&B is the best value for money. The winner doesn’t get a prize, but does get the accolade of a winners plaque and more importantly a huge boost in web traffic once they win the TV show.
In last Friday’s episode they brought an end to a week of Bed and Breakfasts in Kent, described as a ‘feisty’ episode by Channel 4 and compared to the iconic Come Dine With Me moment by fans online.
The hosts visit each other’s B&Bs over the course of the week, filling out anonymous forms to rate the others on how they enjoyed their stay. More importantly however they will fill an envelope with however much money they believe to be a fair payment for the night they spent.

A clip from the final episode of this latest run has gone viral on X in which a host Saban produced ‘this generation’s version’ of the iconic Come Dine With Me moment.
Saban overpayed by a substantial amount for his stay at Mark and Anne’s property, proceeding to turn round and state he’d done it because he believed the other participants in the show had been cheating and he wanted to make sure they didn’t win.
Emma-Louise, who runs a B&B, and Ami and Mark, who run a glamping site, were accused by Saban of underpaying the others in a tactical move to try and secure the win for themselves.

Emma-Louise had underpaid Ami and Mark by £50 and Saban by £56. Saban was also left raging after Ami and Mark underpaid him by £36, leaving him essentially guaranteed to be in last place.
Mark and Anne accused the pair of owners of ‘playing a game’ after they said it felt like they were being ‘punished’, only for Saban to overpay by £220 to secure them the win.
He explained to them: “It’s worth that, the luxury you provided, the attention to detail you provided, it is perfect.”
“The other reason is, there’s no way I could have allowed you two to win. It was a game play from the start, the way I see it I cheated to stop the other cheaters winning.”
The clip has gone incredibly viral on X after a viewer posted a clip of the Channel 4 show's confrontation with the caption: “Absolute cinema on Four in a Bed.”
Check out the moment below:
The clip now has over 1.5 million views, with one popular reply saying: “Omg this decade’s come dine with me worthy viral moment.”
Another replied: “Saw the whole episode, he was completely justified in doing so. The others were massively underpaying for the smallest of issues. He read them like a book. Absolute certified geezer.”
A third got to the heart of why UK TV moments like this are so beloved, saying: “This is what British TV is all about. Gimme more of this petty nonsense where everyone hates each other.”
The fiery confrontation came even before the final rankings, with Mark and Anne coming in first with his overpay, followed by Emma-Louise, Mark and Ami, and then Saban in last.

Saban said he was ‘very happy’ to come in last, adding: “If they were going to play the game, I was going to play that too.”
Emma-Louise called Saban’s ‘game-playing’ a ‘kick in the teeth’, whilst the winning couple hailed him, explaining: “To get that recognition after working so hard, it affected me more than I thought it would to be honest.”
Four in a Bed is available to watch on Channel 4 now.
