I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! contestants face very strict rules when it comes to bringing anything comforting into the jungle, with producers considering it as going against the ideas of the show.

Viewers of the ITV reality show want one thing from I’m A Celeb most of the time, and that’s to see uber-rich celebrities forced to slum it out around a campfire and occasionally have bugs and creepy crawlies dropped on their heads.

This means that I’m A Celeb has very strict rules on what contestants can bring into the jungle, with the only luxury items in the camp being ones that can be won in challenges.

Alex Scott has made headlines for breaking the rules on this, very clearly being shown to have smuggled what appeared to be salt packets into the jungle to make their food more interesting.

This was a clear item banned from the jungle, so Scott could be putting the camp in trouble as they face punishment – here is the full list of banned items from I’m A Celeb.

Any clothing not provided by ITV is banned

When celebrities go into the jungle, they are put under clear restrictions to only wear the clothes provided by ITV.

Regardless of the celeb’s status, their options remain the same every year: some variation of a red fleece, khaki hats, overshirts, blue t-shirts, and red trousers, shorts and socks (which are red for a very specific reason).

While celebs are allowed to bring in their own underwear and swimwear, Giovanna Fletcher said she was banned from bringing cycling shorts onto the show.

Makeup, spices, and other luxuries are not allowed in the jungle

The reveal that Amy Willerton had been secretly wearing makeup was a major storyline of the 2013 I’m A Celeb, with contestants being withheld food until they agreed to all hand in their contraband.

Willerton had managed to sneak in her whole makeup bag, but had to give it up after ten days.

Other ‘luxuries’ that are banned include salt, pepper, teabags, as smuggled in by Dean McCullough last year, and pillows.

In addition to this, clocks or watches are not allowed, with the show going as far as to cover up Ant and Dec’s watches.

Pictures of family members are not allowed to be brought in, and instead must be won in challenges, as this year’s cast has done.

This has been attempted in the past by AJ Pritchard in 2020, who tried to sneak in a pillow with his girlfriend’s face on it.

In addition to this, other items such as pens, paper, books, or anything that could be used to pass the time is not allowed.

How do celebrities smuggle the contraband into the jungle?

Over the years, celebs have managed to smuggle contraband into the jungle through a number of inventive ways.

Gillian McKeith famously snuck in an absolute mass of contraband past producers, sneaking in salt and pepper, a herb shaker, various spices, 8 herbal stock cubes, rock salt, a bag of herbal seasoning powder and multiple tea bags.

Another famous contraband attempt saw Jimmy Osmond in 2005 try and sneak things inside a teddy bear he had included as his luxury item to be won in a task; however, producers caught him.

What is the punishment for bringing contraband into the camp?

Celebrities who are caught with prohibited items in camp will typically be forced to face repercussions for their actions, with punishments usually involving food with a spokesperson from ITV confirming to LADbible that Scott's rule break had seen a star deducted from the most recent Bushtucker Trial.

"“Campmates will then be told there’s a contraband amnesty and they have an opportunity to surrender all contraband without further punishment. Once the camp owns up, dinner will then be delivered," the statement added.
