I’m A Celeb medic shares grim reason all contestants are wearing red socks

It's about substance rather than style

A host of celebrities in khaki and red ensembles landed back on our screens on Sunday (16 November) amid the return of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!

And although the colours complement the stars camping out in the Australian jungle well, there's actually a grim reason behind this clothing choice.

Last night, viewers watched as ten big names, including Jack Osbourne, Kelly Brook, Aitch, and Ruby Wax, arrived in camp.

Although the episode began with the stars wearing their own clobber, they soon switched into their jungle uniforms. These consist of khaki hats and shirts, blue vests or t-shirts, as well as red trousers, shorts and gilets.

In the footwear department, celebrities sport walking boots which are paired with red socks - and there's a method to the madness.

The show's beloved former medic, Bob McCarron, previously revealed that the reason the stars of I'm A Celeb wear red socks is because it helps 'disguise' bloodstains.

He told Woman's Own that, as the famous folks are living among a myriad of blood-sucking critters in the jungle, they will likely get a few nips during their time on the show.

As you can imagine, these tiny red specks would show up prominently on a pair of white socks - so the decision was made to opt for red. Good call, ITV.

Although he has a wealth of 'I'm A Celeb' wisdom, Bob is no longer part of the show, as he announced his departure in 2022 after two decades as the resident medic.

Reports claimed that he simply became 'too busy' to commit to caring for the celebrities while they are in the jungle, although he remains active Down Under.

In a statement confirming his exit, ITV said at the time: "Bob will always be a friend to the show. We wish him all the very best and thank him for his hard work."

Even though it's still extremely early in the series, viewers have already had a host of stuff to sink their teeth into - including Kelly Brook's 'awkward' reunion with Ant and Dec.

Piers Morgan has since shared his thoughts on the 'interesting' interaction between them in the wake of their reported feud following the model's extremely brief stint on Britain’s Got Talent judging panel in 2009.

As well as this, we saw US comedian Ruby Wax introduce herself to Brits watching at home with an anecdote about getting kicked off President Donald Trump's plane.

And we're only 24 hours in - so brace yourself for a thrilling next few weeks.
