Everything The Inbetweeners cast have said about a sequel as return is confirmed

The Inbetweeners is officially coming back

The cast of The Inbetweeners have, after over a decade, reportedly agreed to return to the iconic show.

The show’s creators, Damon Beesley and Iain Morris, confirmed in a statement that Simon, Will, Jay, and Neil were going to be returning for ‘more adventures’.

This comes after reports stating that their production company, Fudge Park, have signed a new partnership with Banijay UK that allows for The Inbetweeners to return.

While it's unclear exactly how it is set to return, reports also stated that the four lead actors, Simon Bird, Joe Thomas, James Buckley, and Blake Harrison, have all signed on to return.

Following the underwhelming Jimmy Carr helmed return in 2019 in which the stars were interviewed in a panel style, the desire for the boys to return for at least one last time has increased steadily, with each of the actors having spoken out over the years about their willingness to return.

Simon Bird, who played Will in the series, was the star to have most recently spoken about The Inbetweeners making a comeback for a fourth season of TV or third movie in an interview with The Daily Mail last year.

Bird said: “I’m afraid to be the one pouring cold water on this but it’s not happening. I can tell you emphatically that there are no prospects of a reunion.

“[The cast would] be happy to but it’s not up to us, it’s up to the writers, Iain [Morris] and Damon [Beesley], and I know they’re both very busy these days.

"It’s not more likely to happen now than it was ten years ago, I’m afraid.”

Whether Bird was simply playing down rumours or things have changed massively in the last year, it appears that Iain and Damon have been able to find the time to make it happen.

The 2019 reunion titled Fwends Reunited was undeniably a massive disaster. The show was initially billed as a genuine comeback of The Inbetweeners and was instead a bizarre panel series in which the cast were made fun of rather than the reunion being an appreciation of the classic show.

James Buckley posted on social media in 2019 in which he said he was ‘sorry’ to fans who felt let down, and later said: “At the moment I wouldn't want to go anywhere near it. I'm not sure we would be able to do it good enough.

“We've always gone 'let's just leave it'. A lot of people might have argued that we should have left it after the first film.

"I think especially after the reunion, me personally I don't want to ruin The Inbetweeners any more.”

Buckley also said that there ‘isn’t enough money in the world’ to get him to play the role again. Blake Harrison has similarly previously said he thought it would ‘never happen’.

Joe Thomas meanwhile was the most positive when asked about a reunion in the past, saying that ‘all of [the cast] feel like it would be nice’.
