Simon Bird is confirmed to be joining the cast of an upcoming Star Wars film.
Earlier this week, the full, star-studded cast for Ryan Gosling's Star Wars: Starfighter film was unveiled, with big names such as Amy Adams, House of the Dragon's Matt Smith and Mia Goth all attached to the project.
The group join Daniel Ings, Flynn Gray, Aaron Pierre, Jamael Westman and, most notably to us Brits, a certain Friday Night Dinner and The Inbetweeners star.
That's right folks, Will McKenzie, the lead character in one of the most accurate TV depictions of British teenage life back in the early noughties, is heading to a galaxy far, far away.

British comedy fans are, of course, delighted by the news and have wasted no time in reacting to the announcement online.
"I hope they give Simon Bird a briefcase scene in Star Wars," wrote one person on X.
"Simon Bird ending up in Star Wars is a fantastic turn of events," added a second user, while a third penned: "Matt Smith losing the part of Will McKenzie in the Inbetweeners to Simon Bird and now starring in the new star wars release together… the lore is lore-ing."
Meanwhile, several others couldn't help bringing up Bird's previous foray into the Star Wars universe, which included Will McKenzie's poorly executed Yoda impression while flirting in season two episode 'The Field Trip'.

"I like to think the creators of this movie are massive Inbetweeners fans and chose Simon Bird because of this scene," penned one user, alongside the famous 'Feisty one you are' gif.
Other fans got to work speculating on what sort of character Bird will play, with many believing the 41-year-old could be lending his voice to the film's loveable droid.
"I would bet a large amount of galactic credits that Simon Bird is voicing a droid," one fan suggested, adding: "Following in the footsteps of british comic actors Matt Berry and Richard Ayoade."
As for the plot of Star Wars: Starfighter, it's currently being kept tightly under wraps; however, it has been confirmed that Smith and Goth will both be playing villains.

"I feel a profound sense of excitement and honour as we begin production on Star Wars: Starfighter," said Deadpool & Wolverine's Shawn Levy, who will be directing the film.
"From the day Kathy Kennedy called me up, inviting me to develop an original adventure in this incredible Star Wars galaxy, this experience has been a dream come true, creatively and personally. Star Wars shaped my sense of what a story can do, how characters and cinematic moments can live with us forever."
He continued: "To join this storytelling galaxy with such brilliant collaborators onscreen and off, is the thrill of a lifetime."
Star Wars: Starfighter is currently scheduled for release in cinemas on May 28, 2027.
