Martin Lewis has issued an apology over the ‘terrible phrasing’ used on his live ITV show last night (14 November).

Everyone’s favourite money-saving expert had his The Martin Lewis Money Show air for a special hour-long edition on ITV.

During the show, Lewis shared tips on savings accounts for children as a granddad asked for advice for the ‘best way’ to put money away for his grandkids.

The Money Saving Expert also gave tips on how switching to Lloyds Bank could net you a mega £175 as well as a free Disney+ subscription.

He also shared other bank switches you can make to earn a bit of cash as well as giving car insurance hacks and other trusty money saving advice.

However, while he was discussing unclaimed child trust funds, Lewis made a bit of a blunder with his wording.

The This Morning regular took to X to apologise for his regretted choice of words.

Lewis wrote: “Just realised in the heat of live show I said 'adoptive children or your children' - terrible phrasing, sorry. Adopted children are of course your children.

“Important tho to highlight many adopted children age 12 to 21's parent may not know they have a Child Trust Fund poss worth £1,000.

“So do check on http://gov.uk to see if you can trace it (other parents who may've lost track of it can do the same too).”

However, many users reassured Lewis in the replies as they commented: “Martin as a father of 4 adopted children I am not in the least offended. TBH I didn't even notice. Would like to say thanks for your switching advice as two of the kids are 18+ now and we have 4 regular switchers in the family which has made made us nearly £2,000 in the last year.”

Another also said: “Thanks Martin, father of three adopted children and I wasn't offended, but glad you are sensitive and give language consideration. Also, one of mine is 12 so will check the trust fund tip out. Thank you!”

And one put: “As a father to three adopted children, I wouldn’t be offended at all. The phrasing isn’t terrible, slightly clumsy at worst. Thanks for the apology though and all the excellent advice and carry on with the good work!”

While the host may have regretted his wording, his show seemed to go down pretty well, with viewers calling it ‘incredible’.

And plenty called him ‘the people’s champion’. We salute you, sir.
