Matthew Perry fans in tears after ITV doc exposes his ‘heartbreaking’ final days

The new ITV doc comes amid a woman known as the 'Ketamine Queen' pleading guilty in connection to his death

Matthew Perry fans have been left in tears after a new ITV documentary exposed his ‘heartbreaking’ final days.

Perry died in October of 2023 due to the ‘acute effects' of the drug ketamine, with him being found unresponsive in his jacuzzi by his assistant.

Five people have been arrested in connection with the Friends star's death for their continued supply of Ketamine.

Jasveen Sangha, known as the Ketamine Queen, was the final of the five arrested to plead guilty to five charges concerning his death, and could face years in prison as a result.

This news came around the same time as ITV’s documentary about the star aired, which had fans in tears after hearing details of the actor's last days.

Called Matthew Perry: A Hollywood Tragedy, the documentary features interviews with lawyers and experts who recounted Perry’s tragic final days.

This included one lawyer connected to the case explaining incriminating text messages between the people who supplied Perry with ketamine that is believed to have led to his death.

The doc has left fans of the Hollywood star in tears, with one fan taking to X to say: “Crying at the Matthew Perry documentary. Friends is my absolute go to and I still think it’s devasting the world is Chandler-less.”

Another ranted about how LA is full of ‘sycophant vacuous people’, saying: “Watching Matthew Perry: A Hollywood Tragedy, on ITVX… Desperately sad that beautiful man was taken advantage of by the scumbags who leeched from him. Too much money.”

And a third said: “Matthew Perry: A Hollywood Tragedy is now on ITV, STV and ITVX. The world is missing a beautiful, funny and caring man. I can’t believe he passed away almost 2 years ago.”

The documentary also featured a number of insightful interviews into his final days, though none of the cast of Friends appeared.

Speaking about their decision, the doc’s director Robert Palumbo said: “Understandably, they were reluctant to go on a documentary about Matthew at this point.

“Maybe many years down the line... We understand their decision not to appear.”

Perry’s co-stars have, however, issued a number of tributes to the comic actor since his death, with Matt LeBlanc, Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimmer, Courtney Cox, and Lisa Kudrow releasing an initial joint statement.

The statement said that they were ‘utterly devastated’, before adding: “We were more than just castmates. We are a family.”

Aniston spoke about his death recently, admitting that a part of her believes that it was ‘better’ for him now he is no longer in pain.

She said in an interview with Vanity Fair that the cast did ‘everything they could’ to help him, saying: “We did everything we could when we could.

“But it almost felt like we’d been mourning Matthew for a long time because his battle with that disease was a really hard one for him to fight.

“As hard as it was for all of us and for the fans, there’s a part of me that thinks this is better. I’m glad he’s out of that pain.”
