Ring doorbell footage shows Mica Miller hours before chilling 911 call and tragic death

Footage captured on a Ring doorbell and local CCTV revealed Mica Miller's final moments before she tragically took her life.
Mica's story is back in the news following the release of Netflix's latest true crime offering, Death of the Pastor’s Wife, a three-part documentary which reconstructs Mica's marriage to her pastor John-Paul 'JP' Miller, a local church leader who was 15 years her senior.
The 30-year-old died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on 27 April, 2024, with her body found in Lumber River State Park in North Carolina, around an hour away from her home in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Her body was later found by police officers, with her death ruled as a suicide.
Doorbell and CCTV footage revealed details about Mica Miller's final day
Following Mica's death, footage captured on her Ring doorbell and CCTV cameras revealed that she'd left her home shortly before midday and travelled to a nearby pawn shop.
It was here that Mica purchased a gun and ammunition, with footage taken from inside the shop showing the transaction taking place, before leaving the store at 12:36pm.
Just over half an hour later, her car was captured travelling down South Carolina's Highway 501, later arriving at a petrol station in Mullins, South Carolina.
After purchasing petrol and a drink, Mica drove away.
Just under an hour and a half after leaving the petrol station, Mica placed a 911 call, asking if law enforcement were able to trace her phone before revealing her plan to kill herself.
Meanwhile, officers were dispatched to the national park and, after a search by rangers and detectives, recovered Mica's body from the water.
During the search of the park, a male witness approached officers to inform them that he'd found a bag later confirmed to belong to Mica. The witness added that he'd heard the sound of crying before a gunshot.
911 call audio later released to the public
Audio of the 911 call made by Mica to emergency services on the day of her death was later released to the public. According to a recording shared by local ABC outlet 15 News, Mica first asked a series of questions confirming that the dispatcher was able to trace her location.
She then informed the operator that she was intending to take her own life and had made the call to ensure that family members would know where to recover her body.
Mica then hung up before the dispatcher could gather information, with further calls made to her phone going unanswered.
What happened to Mica Miller's husband?
It was later alleged that, throughout her marriage to Miller, Mica had been subjected to coercive control by her husband. In an affidavit written to accompany her divorce filing, she Mica claimed that she had been abused 'emotionally, sexually, spiritually, financially, and physically' by Miller since they wed.
In December 2025, JP Miller was charged with cyberstalking, related to alleged harassment of Mica in the month leading up to her death, and allegedly lying to federal investigators over his estranged wife's suicide.
Miller later pleaded not guilty to the charges. He has also not been charged in relation to Mica's death.
His trial is currently scheduled for October 2026.
