Daveigh Chase's manager has said the actress has been missing since she failed to show for a meeting back in 2015.

It was announced that Daveigh Chase, who shot to fame with her performances in The Ring and Lilo & Stitch, had died on 16 June after a meningitis diagnosis, aged 35.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, her friend and former manager, John Ryan Jr., revealed that Chase had been missing for over 10 years when she missed a meeting with Rob Reiner about a possible role in 2015.

"Rob Reiner had called us and had a role for her, and she never showed up," Ryan said.

"He said, 'I've got a role I want to talk to her about — have her come in!' And then when we followed up the next day with him, like, 'Hey, how did [the meeting] go?' They were like, 'She never showed.' "And then we were like, 'Okay, something's up.'

"We called, we went down and told [the police]."

Why Ryan didn't go public with Daveigh Chase's disappearance

Ryan counted Chase as one of his 'best friends' and called the former child star his 'little sister'.

He said: "Because of her history, we just assumed she'd show up."

Following her death, reports soon began to emerge of the terrible conditions Chase had been living in, with an Instagram video appearing to show her looking very unwell and unable to move inside a tent.

Chase was reportedly living in Skid Row, a homeless community of thousands in Los Angeles.

Six months ago, Ryan was sent a video of Chase in Skid Row and 'ran down there'.

Yet, he continued: "By the time I went down there, she had already left. We've been looking for her ever since. We've had private eyes on it."

Ryan initially didn't go public with her disappearance as he hoped she would return and the rest of the world would be none the wiser, but changed his mind following the video.

"I didn't think it's my story to tell," he said. "I didn't want to put my little sister on blast.

"We had hopes she'd come back, and everyone would've just assumed she's been retired these last 10 years.

"But once I started hearing things like Skid Row and all that, then it was like, 'Okay, now we're calling all cars.'

"Once I got video of her, and how bad she looked, I said, 'We need to bring the public in on this. I don't want to protect the brand anymore. I want to protect the girl.'"

Ryan had been working on a documentary, tentatively titled Finding Lilo, chronicling his search for Chase, but it will now honour her life instead.

"We wanted the world to know, like, 'Hey, this girl that you dress up as for Halloween has been missing for 10 years, and we need the internet's help finding her," Ryan said. "Now we're gonna spin it and make it a documentary celebrating her life."

LADbible has approached LAPD and the LA medical examiner for comment.
