When it comes to classic noughties shows there are few more cherished than Pimp My Ride.
If you loved cars but even from a young age you struggled with Jeremy Clarkson on Top Gear, then the classic MTV show was the place to be when it came to turning cars around, in a figurative sense rather than a literal sense.
For those of you who are a little too young to remember it, or simply never watched it, the show saw Xzibit and his entourage meet young car owners with some rather worn-out looking cars, before taking them to a custom body shop to give their cars the makeover they deserved.
This would also include installing all the latest gadgets in your car, which you would assume would mean built-in screens for the little ones or a bluetooth player but this was the noughties, and people had to put up with neon paint and bizarre inclusions such as a sewing machine. Because who doesn't wish they could get some sewing done while stuck in traffic.
However, it seems as if the show is not all that it seemed, after YouTuber Tavarish exposed one of the show's secrets after picking up an abandoned Pimp My Ride minivan for the small price of $850.

It turns out that often during the show, they would simply buy a very similar model car or van that was more easily modified, and that's what the audience would see instead of the real thing, which was likely destroyed.
Tavarish shows clips from the episode and makes it clear that the model he's bought is a 1999 model, rather than the 1988 which is initially presented.
Tavarish explained: “A lot of times, the guys didn’t use the original car.
“They got cars that looked kind of like it, and then modified those.” Sorry if that's just ruined your childhood.

Well, luckily for the YouTuber, the van was still equipped with some of the cool features back from the show, despite him suggesting that it's essentially been picking up dust for many years.
He showed off some incredibly unhelpful electrical wiring before opening the boot, which was essentially a boombox system with a dodgy speaker, because who wouldn't want that in their boot.
Other helpful features include no door handles on the side of the van, questionable stains on the denim seats and a couch which was covered in tyres.
So, the next time you think about buying a van or a car, maybe turn down someone's offer to pimp your ride, because much like everything else these days, it was basically just for show.
And if you were lucky, or unlucky, enough to be involved on Pimp My Ride back in the day, I can only apologise for whatever they did to your old car before giving you this bizarre replacement.
