Rylan Clark has issued a statement after his bizarre outburst on This Morning about immigration, an outburst which has since been widely debunked.

Clark, widely known for his stint on X-Factor and his subsequent career as a presenter, decided to weigh in on the ongoing criticism of decisions to house migrants in hotels across the UK.

This decision, made by the Conservative government in 2019, has led to various racist protests outside migrant hotels across the UK, as well as false claims being made about how the process works.

These false claims includes the statement made by Rylan on This Morning in which he stated that migrants in hotels was a ‘major worry’ as part of a discussion of Nigel Farage’s mass deportation plan

He went on to say that he finds it ‘absolutely insane’ that people are risking their lives to come across the channel and added that many Labour voters are saying ‘there’s something wrong’.

Rylan claimed that asylum seekers seem to be told: “Here’s the hotel, here’s the phones, here’s your iPad, here’s three meals a day, here’s the NHS in the reception of your hotel, have a lovely time.”

Large parts of this are factually incorrect, something Rylan was slammed for on social media.

Migrants in the UK seeking asylum were briefly given phones during COVID-19, but only for specific circumstances such as interviews.

Whilst some asylum seekers are provided phones or sim cards, these are provided by charities and not public funds.

There is also no proof that iPads have been provided for asylum seekers, or that there is an NHS service in the reception of any hotels housing migrants.

Asylum seekers are given three meals a day and £9.95 a week or an all-inclusive £49.18 if their accommodation does not provide food.

Providing food for asylum seekers is a legal requirement based on the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999.

This incident saw Rylan receive pelters on social media, with one posting the clip of his statement saying: “This is where the country goes to the dogs. Rylan is allowed to say plainly untrue statements on a national news show with literally no pushback.

“Asylum seekers housed in hotels are NOT given phones or ipads. They are not living a life of luxury.”

Following the criticism, the former X-Factor star responded on X, saying: “You can be pro immigration and against illegal routes.

“You can support trans people and have the utmost respect for women.

“You can be heterosexual and still support gay rights. The list continues.

“Stop with this putting everyone in a box exercise and maybe have conversations instead of shouting on twitter.”

Many were quick to point out however that there is no such thing as an illegal route to asylum.Asylum seekers can only be judged to be in the UK illegally if they seek asylum and have their claim rejected and then fail to leave.

One person responded to Rylan on X, saying: “Will you be apologising for repeating lies (people handed phones and ipads, hotels for ‘illegal migrants’ etc) that have been used by the far right to inflame community tension and directly led to an increase in violence against black and brown people across the country?”

LADBible have contacted representatives of Rylan Clark for comment.
