Warning: This article contains spoilers for the Stranger Things finale

Sadie Sink has shared a bit of a ‘hot take’ on what she really thinks happened at the end of Stranger Things.

With fans currently up in arms over whether the finale was even the end of the Netflix show and hitting out at the creators for the storyline, many are still divided over Eleven’s (Millie Bobby Brown) fate.

The Duffer Brothers have already had to debunk theories about her, as the episode pretty much left it open on whether El is dead or alive.

As the core gang got together for one last game of D&D, Mike (Finn Wolfhard) told a tale that the character had escaped Hawkins and gone to live where the waterfalls are, while it had originally appeared that she had sacrificed herself and died with the Upside Down.

And Sink’s verdict is proving somewhat controversial.

The 23-year-old, who plays Max in Stranger Things, was asked whether she believes El is alive or if it’s more just a story to help Mike and the crew deal with the loss.

Appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the actor said: “I think she’s dead. I don’t know.”

Obviously, this isn’t quite the theory most fans like to believe, as let’s face it, none of us wants the favourite character of one of the favourite shows to be killed off.

The audience reaction reflected this too, with a whole load of gasps and grumbles and ‘oohs’, leading Sink to ask if that’s a ‘hot take’ to have.

“I think Mike’s story is just one last story, and then they say goodbye to childhood, but that’s just one final tale and that’s it,” she continued. “I think it’s just like a coping thing… that’s my interpretation.”

And on X, fans wrote: “Sadie don’t make me lose hope.”

“She really went in on Mike’s arc fr,” another joked, as one put: “That theory just broke my heart.”

“SADIE, NOOOOO,” others echoed.

Meanwhile, some did side with her take: “Ok but I agree with her now what.”

“She’s not wrong,” one wrote. “But I think most of us sleep better with Mike’s version.”

The creators are still leaving it up to fans, though, as they chose to make one thing clear, as in an interview with Variety, Ross Duffer said: "The only thing I’ll debunk is that Eleven does not communicate with Mike in any way."

The Stranger Things finale is currently streaming on Netflix.
