It's one of the most debauched, talked-about episodes of The Boys – but did you know season three's 'Herogasm' may have been even more explicit behind-the-scenes?
In a series as explicit as The Boys, you'd think it would be particularly difficult to stand out from the others in terms of shock factor, and yet 'Herogasm' does exactly this by featuring a superhero orgy party.
And let's be honest, it's probably the first thing you mention whenever anybody asks you to describe what watching The Boys is like.
From the moment Starlight and Mother's Milk walk into the house, to a showdown between Soldier Boy and Homelander, it's back-to-back supes and non-supes going at it in every way possible.

And don't even get us started on The Deep receiving oral sex from an octopus or Mother's Milk being bit a colossal amount of bodily fluids.

And yet, filming for the series can be even more explicit than what we see on screen.
"What we see on set is [the] rated X version of what ends up on the show, like we've seen worse," Mother's Milk actor Laz Alonso explained during a recent interview with LADbible ahead of season five's premiere.
The 52-year-old went on to explain that the superhero sex-fest was filmed during COVID-19, meaning there were extra precautions on set, including the casting of real couples to limit the spread of potential infection.
Sounds like a sensible idea, right?
"So that way we limited the contract tracing, and everyone's together at home and on set," Alonso explained. "But the thing about that is, is that when they yell action, there's real action going on."
The Avatar actor went on to joke that he ‘saw some action’ while wandering through the orgy house, although 'nothing illegal' showrunner Eric Kripke was quick to add.

Alonso wasn't the only star from the Prime Video series who had a memorable time shooting 'Herogasm' with both Kripke and Starlight/Anne January actor Erin Moriarty, both recalling unfortunate instances involving bodily fluids.
"Covid rules were that you needed hand sanitiser in these giant tubs everywhere [on set]," Kripke explained.
Which, again, makes sense and is no different to other workplaces at the time.
However, the difference is that the rest of us weren't at risk of confusing hand sanitiser with a bottle of lube, also present on set for obvious reasons, which led to some unfortunate moments between takes.
"Every 20 minutes, you would hear someone go, ‘oh man’, they just kept putting lube in their hands instead of sanitising," he added.

Meanwhile, for Moriarty, her favourite moment involved watching an Alonso getting shot with multiple ropes seconds after opening a door.
Which, fortunately for everyone, was fake. Although they did run out of the stuff while filming
"I liked watching Laz Alonso get a cannon, like a massive, massive cannon burst of fake cum blasted onto him during Herogasm," she said.
Season five of The Boys premieres on Prime Video on 8 April.
