A contestant of new Channel 4 series The Hunt has revealed that he is a grandad at the age of 33.

The Hunt: Prey vs Predator is an adventure reality series where 10 players are competing against each other in a remote forest with up to £100,000 of prize money up for grabs.

Once the 10 participants get divided into two camps 'Predators' and 'Prey', Team Prey have to find challenges in the forest and complete them in exchange for cash.

Meanwhile, the Predators are tasked with hunting the others down.

The twist is, if anyone from Team Prey gets caught, they are forced to swap roles with the Predator and hand over their dough.

At the end of each episode, a Predator gets voted off.

In the first episode of the show, however, contest Nathan surprised his co-stars after admitting that he was a father-of-six 'and a grandfather of one'.

"But we don't use the word grandad because it's really uncool, so it's papa," the former military man - who is now a dentist - explained.

"Life is always on the go. This is a break. This is a holiday," he joked to the camera in another clip.

Viewers were a little surprised by the admission, as one person tweeted: "He’s 33 and he’s a grandad!?"

While another penned: "Surprised no one had follow up questions for Nathan being a grandad at 33!?"

Ahead of the series, Nathan revealed that he and his wife Carly run a casting agency and two private drama schools.

"Life’s busy. I’m a normal lad from the north and I’m just up for a bit of a laugh," he said.

Opening up about why he wanted to give The Hunt a go, the brave dad said: "I really want to do this to prove to myself that I can.

"I’ve got a condition called FND (Functional Neurological Disorder), which means that I have seizures and I also get weakness in my left-hand side, so it’s a personal challenge to see whether I can still get up and run around a forest."

On what else to expect from the show, Channel 4 said: "Popularity, plotting, power plays, loyalty and friendship will all come into play and will, in fact, be crucial - as victory will depend not just on stealth in the wild, but skill as a social animal."

The first episode of The Hunt: Prey vs Predator is available to stream now on Channel 4 On Demand.
