A new thriller on BBC, starring Jenna Coleman, has been compared to the hugely popular series, Happy Valley.

The show dropped on BBC iPlayer on Monday (15 July) and stars Coleman as detective constable Ember Manning, who is investigating a series of cases in her hometown of Lancaster.

The show kicks off with the old yacht club having been burned down, believed to be in an act of arson.

As Ember is looking into the case, she discovers that a local teenager is pregnant and could have been the victim of statutory rape.

As she investigates, she trails back to the case of Amy Knightly, a local teen who went missing 17 years ago.

We don't want to give too much away, but Ember is forced to confront the possibility that the case could be even closer to home than she first thought.

It's a gripping thriller, filled with twists and plenty of cliff-hangers.

And it's led many viewers to draw parallels with another brilliant drama, Happy Valley, starring Sarah Lancashire.

The BBC show had three seasons spanning across nine years.

It first aired on the BBC back in 2014, with the second season following in 2016, and the third in 2023.

Set in the Calder Valley, in West Yorkshire, it focuses on Sarah Lancashire as Sergeant Catherine Cawood, as she attempts to solve mysteries and avert disasters, both in the line of duty and in her private life.

The show also starred James Norton, who played the heinous Tommy Lee Royce, who is the father of Catherine's grandson, Ryan.

People have been comparing the two shows, with one writing on X: "Jetty might be the one for Jenna. Brits love a good crime drama. Happy Valley. Line of duty. Even Law And Order UK. They all won awards of some kind."

Meanwhile, Lucy Mangan wrote for The Guardian: "Could this be the new Happy Valley?"

Others admitted to binge-watching the show already, with another writing on X: "The Jetty starts tonight on BBC One - I heartily recommend it, some good curveballs and strong performances.

"I binged the lot at once, great series."

And a fourth said: "The Jetty. Just finished this hooked from start to finish. All episodes on BBC iPlayer. Brilliant Actress. A must watch."

While a fifth commented: "All of the jetty is up on iplayer i’m so ready to binge it once i get home."

You can catch all episodes of The Jetty on BBC iPlayer now.
