The Simpsons has finally done a couch gag which shows what actually happens to Homer after Marge hits him with her car.

The iconic opening to the show changes with each episode as Bart writes something else on the board at school and there's a different couch gag involving the family.

We've had three main title sequences and in the latest version of the opening Homer doesn't manage to dodge Marge driving into the garage, with her instead hitting him and sending him flying through a door where he makes a Homer-shaped hole.

However, in a recent couch gag they featured a heavily-injured Homer confronting his family about being run over and being sent flying through a door with all the injuries that would give someone.

The rest of the Simpson clan sit there awkwardly trying to avoid his gaze as Homer collapses to the ground while the opening titles continue.

Check it out:

In the sequence he shouts: "How are you just sitting there? Your mom hit me with her car! She smashed me through a solid oak door!

"How could you not see me in the garage, I was running away and screaming in terror!"

Homer also complains 'there's wood everywhere in me' and wonders aloud 'why the hell was Maggie in the front seat'.

They're probably questions we'll never get the answer to.

Fortunately for Homer he's been through tougher tests, what with him falling down Springfield Gorge, falling down it again when his ambulance crashed, having a bridge closed on his head, being shot in his guise as 'Pieman', having a triple heart bypass and having Bart smash a chair over his head.

That's just to name a few of the injuries he's suffered, but fortunately Homer is a cartoon and can't actually feel pain, despite his many howls of agony to the contrary.

We're currently on our third iteration of The Simpsons opening titles.

The first ones were only shown during the first season which featured a longer sequence of Lisa cycling home and her arriving home first.

From season two until season 20 the titles were the ones people will be most familiar with, where we don't see Lisa cycling home and Homer gets back first, having to dodge his daughter when he gets out of the car.

However, both of them involve Marge nearly running him over when she gets back with Homer running away and escaping through a door in the garage.

The opening titles changed majorly for season 20 and The Simpsons switching to high definition with lots more jokes and appearances from regular characters.

When Marge gets back home she's on her phone while driving, so hits Homer with her car and sends him flying through the door.
