Fans left baffled over ‘worst question ever heard’ on Who Wants to be a Millionaire’

The question seemed almost impossible to get right

Fans of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire were left shocked by this particularly difficult question.

You know how the quiz show works - to win the grand prize of £1,000,000, you have to get all the questions right, and you're entitled to three lifelines along the way.

And when Glen Bunn went on the ITV show in a August 2021 episode, he showed promise by having a great start, though was seemingly stumped at the £64,000 mark.

You never know what kind of questions you'll get on the hit show, though one thing that is known is just how hard it is to win, with only six Brits emerging victorious since its inception in 1998.

So when Bunn was rewarded for his good start with this question, viewers at home felt bad for him, with some dubbing it the 'hardest ever' question they'd seen.

The contestant returned to the show on 21 August 2021, having reached the £32,000 milestone in the episode previous, and was shocked to hear what the next question was, when host Jeremy Clarkson read it out to him.

The question read: "From the 2000 awards ceremony onwards, the Best Actress Oscar has never been won by a woman whose surname begins with which one of these letters?"

The multiple choice answers available were: A: G, B: K, C: M and D: W.

The question at the time would have applied to winners from 2000 to 2021, though viewers swiftly took to social media to complain about the question.

One user posted: "What a stupid first question."

Another wrote: "Worst question I have ever heard on a TV quiz show. So glad he guessed the correct answer," while a third called it 'awful'.

But not to worry, the answer will be revealed soon - unless of course, you want to try to work it out first.

The brave contestant said that he was 'drawing a blank', as he couldn't think of any Oscar-winning actresses with those letters.

Upon using his Phone a Friend lifeline, he found out that his friend was as lost as he was - with him being no closer to getting a definitive answer.

But with nothing but luck, Bunn guessed A: G, and got the answer right, to Clarkson's - and his own - disbelief.

Stars such as Frances McDormand, Kate Winslet and Nicole Kidman are some of the actresses to have won the prestigious award in that timeframe.

He had actually set his safety net at £32,000, so was not going to lose anything if he had got it wrong.

Bunn then got the next question right, before being stumped at the £250,000 mark with a question about Vincent van Gogh's painting techniques, and chose to walk away with a handsome £125,000 in his pocket.
