It’s been 20 years since the ITV show that spawned American Idol propelled Will Young to national fame.
With his soft guitar style, Young has pumped out four UK number-one albums, three top-five singles, two Brit Awards, and over eight million album sales worldwide.
Now fans want to know how much the 43-year-old singer-songwriter has earned throughout his career, including on hit songs such as ‘Evergreen’ and ‘Light My Fire’.
What Is Will Young’s Net Worth?
As of 2022, Will Young has an estimated net worth of $3 million (£2.4 million), according to Celebrity Net Worth.
Young was the first winner ever of the short-lived Pop Idol ITV talent show in 2002, while still studying musical theatre in Chiswick.
That show had to drop the ‘pop’ after Popstars (of Girls Aloud fame) complained, but went on to create successful spin-offs around the world, including the one and only American Idol.
He has since said he enjoys standing up to ‘bullies’ like Simon Cowell, who would always be more critical of Young’s performances on the show.
The singer came out as gay in 2002, and has since been the centre of an online spat with Jeremy Clarkson over a ‘homophobic’ scene in The Grand Tour.
Young has also been an active campaigner for animal rights. In 2021 the singer even chained himself to the gates of a puppy breeding facility in Cambridgeshire to protest the use of dogs for medical research.
He also rescued two dogs facing euthanasia - named Domino and Diamond - from America.
Through all his success, Will Young has also gone through years of horrible pain, losing his twin brother to suicide.
The Channel 4 programme Will Young: Losing My Twin Rupert sees the star open up about the experience, and encourages people to understand the dangers of alcoholism.
