Legendary YouTuber 'Outdoor Boys' comes out of retirement for heartbreaking reason

Warning: This article contains discussion of cancer which some readers may find distressing.

Outdoor Boys' Luke Nichols has come out of retirement to help out a fellow YouTuber who is caring for his wife with cancer.

The outdoor-lifestyle creator retired from YouTube earlier this year because he felt burnt out by workload and how quickly his channel was growing to 18 million subscribers.

His popularity from making wilderness-camping, fishing, and survival videos made everyday life difficult for him and his family.

Encounters with fans in public, constant messages, and a lack of privacy contributed to his decision to step back from content creation.

In a recent post, Luke revealed that he has stepped back in to YouTube to help a friend going through a difficult time.

His pal Steven - who runs the MyLifeOutdoors YouTube channel - is currently caring for his wife who is battling cancer, while also raising four kids.

The Outdoor Boys creative filmed a camping video and put it out the MyLifeOutdoors channel so that Steven doesn’t have to worry about producing content over the Christmas period.

Taking to Instagram, he wrote: "Some of you may know that Steven with the MyLifeOutdoors YouTube channel is helping his wife battle cancer while also raising four kids and running a YouTube channel.

"That's a lot to deal with, so I made a video for him to have and post exclusively on his channel so that he didn't have to worry about making a video over the holidays."

The new video posted on both channels sees Luke heads to Alaska to spend a night in a snowstorm with no tent or sleeping bag.

"Racing against the early Arctic sunset, he builds a fire-heated shelter from scratch, gathers enough wood for a 17-hour night, cooks moose stew over the flames, and even squeezes in a bit of gear talk along the way," the description reads.

It comes after Steven revealed on his page last month that his wife had been diagnosed with thyroid cancer earlier in the year.

“The lump turned out to be a completely different type of breast cancer. Triple negative breast cancer, which as far as I understand is the worst type of breast cancer that you can be diagnosed with,” he said.

“It has the least number of treatment options available to doctors to try to treat it.

“She’s going to be doing 22 weeks of chemotherapy of which we are already four weeks into.

“So far, she’s been tolerating the chemo really well. First few weeks went better than this last one.”
