Guys Get Pissed In Somerset And End Up Drunkenly Having Breakfast In France

Guys Get Pissed In Somerset And End Up Drunkenly Having Breakfast In France

Brilliant.

Everything seems like a good idea when you're drunk. Challenges seem to form in your brain, that, had you been sober, would have been God awful concepts. However, after a few jars of the golden nectar, of course a 450 somersault, while farting fire and eating Pop Tarts, is a plausible thing to attempt.

It's not until the dim reality of sobriety hits you the following morning that it dawns on you that the previous night's ideas were unfathomably stupid. Although you can often wake to cringe at your actions, it's quite rare that you regret them. It was all in the name of fun, inspired by lords of this life, Messrs Morgan, Daniels, Beam, Smirnoff, Guinness and Coors.

Even if the repercussions of your actions are rather shite, usually you can find yourself looking back on the events after a few years, laughing with your mates.

These guys, Richard Di Leonardo, Paul Evans, Anthony McNally and Kenneth Stuart have learnt to do that after they, in a nut shell, decided they'd go to France for breakfast.

On a good side of a few lagers back in 1998, the four chaps in question spotted an advert for ferry trips across the channel to France. Of course the idea was floated into the air of: "What if we just go, now?"

Of course, when a joke idea is poised at the beginning of a drinking session, then it remains through the entirety of it.

"Back in 1998 when me and my three mates were 19, we were bored one night and an advert for Brittany Ferries came on the TV," Richard Di Leonardo, the teller of the story, told TheLADbible. "We started joking that, rather than head to the pub, we should jump on a ferry to France.

"As the night went on and the drinks flowed it became more and more of a logical thing to do."

In all honesty, their original plan wasn't just to go for breakfast, but rather to spend a bit of time there, having a laugh.

As we all know though, these kind of things don't always pan out the way they're supposed to. Leaving from Frome, Somerset, after getting off the ferry in the land of croissants, they planned to come back the following evening. However, after getting far too messy on board the ship, things took a completely different shape.

"We grabbed our passports, got a lift to the port, jumped on the midnight ferry from Poole to Cherbourg as foot passengers," Richard said. "We planned to return the following evening.

"However, the night got messy and we woke up on the floor of the restaurant under the tables with diners eating breakfast all around us. After spending all of our cash on booze and cheap fags, we only had enough cash left for breakfast."

Of course, coming all that way you have to soak up some of the culture there, so they did - for an hour.

Using their remaining cash, the four pals grabbed some breakfast, before realising that it was probably best for them to head back to Ol' Blighty.

Richard told TheLADbible: "We got off the ship at 7am and headed to a French café for breakfast."

"We spent all of an hour in France before getting a friend to pay for a return crossing for us to come straight back on the exact same boat that we'd sailed over on," he continued.

"Job done! We still talk about it to this day: 'Remember when we went to France for breakfast?'.

"It's been one of our stories from over the years that people just can't believe we did. Probably one of those memories that has kept us mates all of these years."

To be totally honest, this is the type of story we all wish we could tell in the future. The type of tale that would really have your son and his teenage mates laughing their heads off. The type of tale you always revisit down the pub. The type of tale that'll never get old.
