Plenty of places all have the same advice for how you should wash your jeans, and the former boss of Levi's told even told they should basically never put them in a washing machine.
Former Levi's boss Charles 'Chip' Bergh told people that they should only wash their jeans in certain circumstances, such as if they get stained.
He also warned people to keep their jeans away from washing machines and suggested that if they were getting too 'gross', then the shower was the right place to clean them.
"I never said don’t wash your jeans," he'd told CNBC.

“True denim heads, people that really love their denim, will tell you to never put your denim into a washing machine. So that’s what I do.

“If I drop some curry on my jeans, I’m gonna clean it. But I’ll spot clean it. And if they get really gross you know, if I’ve been out sweating or something and they get really gross, I’ll wash them in the shower.”
That sounds like the advice for the real jeans purists, as a bunch of other retailers have got pretty much the same advice for taking care of your denim.
M&S, Uniqlo and Diesel all say you should only wash your jeans 'infrequently' since doing it too often makes the colour fade and the clothes lose their shape.

According to M&S, most people will stick them in the washing machine every five to 10 wears, while Diesel recommends leaving it 10 wears or longer.
They also suggest sticking your jeans in the freezer for a day to 'freshen things up', though a study has found that this actually doesn't help get rid of bacteria even if it makes the jeans seem fresh at first.

Uniqlo says the ideal is to 'go months without washing your jeans', but they should be aired out and sprayed with fabric freshener to combat the foul pongs that come from being in close proximity to your legs for days.
All of these places say that if you must put them in the washing machine then you ought to turn them inside out and stick things on a gentle cycle in water not warmer than 30C, and you should never tumble dry them.

It's a bit different from the advice the Levi's bloke gave to shower your jeans every now and then, but everywhere you look the general advice is to wash them after plenty of wears rather than sticking them in the machine time and time again.
