Eye-watering cost of drinks at Coachella as festival kicks off this weekend

It's going to be a very expensive weekend for some people

It's finally the weekend of Coachella, which means you're about to have your timelines filled with grainy footage of headline acts and influencers showing off their unique festival looks.

Because apparently dressing comfortably for spending hours on your feet isn't the done thing anymore.

Taking place over a series of weekends in the Coachella Valley, near the city of Indio, California, the festival is a haven for music lovers, party-goers and people who want to boast about their experience on social media.

With around 125,000 passing though its gates each day, the festival will have plenty acts lined up, with the likes of Lady Gaga, Green Day, Post Malone and Travis Scott all headlining this year.

And it's a good job there's a stacked roster of musicians scheduled to perform, because attending Coachella is not cheap — and we're not talking about the $599 (£457) minimum ticket price.

Once you've shelled out for your tickets, outfits, essentials and made your way over to the festival site you may find yourself feeling a little peckish or dehydrated.

So you head over to the nearest food or drink stand and discover that, like every other festival, concert, train station or airport, everything is grossly inflated in price.

A photo of a drinks menu from Coachella this year shared on X user @MYFriendGavin is already doing the rounds and at first glance things don't look too bad, with the stand charging a reasonable $2 (£1.50) for water.

But it's when you notice items such as an alcohol free beer for $10 (£7.64) or a vodka Redbull costing an eye-watering $23 (£17) that you begin to wonder if anyone is actually paying for these items or if the whole thing is one big wind up.

It would seem like food prices aren't that much better either, with posters on a recent Reddit thread sharing that a slice of pepperoni pizza would set you back around $11 (£8) while a full meal costs as much as $30 (£23).

I guess that's the price you pay for being at one of the most popular festivals on the planet.

When looking at the prices last year, a few festivalgoers documented their food spending on social media, with one person forking out as much as $25 (£19) for a salad or $64 (£48) for a couple of burritos and cucumber water, Indy100 reported.

For those prices, I better be sampling the freshest salad or most refreshing water ever to exist on the planet.
