Sober October is here once again, with huge numbers of Brits expected to quit booze for the month.

If you're one of the many people curious about going sober, you also might be worried that you'll miss out on the fun associated with drinking.

If so, you'll be pleased to hear a 0% spirit exists that can make you 'feel tipsy' - and you can buy it legally in the UK.

You can even make cocktails with the alcohol-free spirits.

In previous years, over 75,000 people have signed up to take part in Sober October, raising millions for Macmillan Cancer Support in the process, making it a worthwhile undertaking for those keen on trying a month sans-alcohol.

How do the non-alcoholic drinks work?

The drinks range is called Sentia Spirits (available on Amazon) and is the brainchild of Professor David Nutt.

According to the man behind the brand, the drinks in question are can help you feel more relaxed by activating a neurotransmitter in the brain known as GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid).

It works in a similar way a pint of beer would; and while you might not feel drunk on them, you'll likely experience a 'buzz'.

When a LADbible writer reviewed the drinks last year, he reported feeling a 'tipsy buzz'.

"After a few minutes, I began to feel a subtle-but-notable warming buzz," George Nash wrote. "A feeling of comforting relaxation, as if I had just been given a hug by Sulley from Monsters, Inc. while Sir David Attenborough ASMR played in the background.

"Several sips later, the sensation remained. It didn’t quite give me the urge to oil up the hips and break out some questionable dance moves, or fire up SingStar and belt out my finest rendition of Busted’s Year 3000, but there was a discernible feeling of contentment."

And reviews on Amazon seem to agree. "It is very calming as a drink," one person wrote, adding they like to add a mixer to it.

Another said: "After a stressful day it helps you unwind and easily forget any negativity," comparing the taste to mulled wine.

Where can you buy the drinks?

There are three versions to shop and try. All are available to shop on Amazon in the UK,.

  • GABA Black: to boost productivity or jumpstart evening plans
  • GABA Red: to chill out and unwind
  • GABA Gold: to bring warmth and wellness to social gatherings

When the lead up to Christmas is suddenly in view, and social drinking for many ramps up, it's worth taking some time to pause on the alcohol intake and try something new. This might just be your next favourite way to get lightly buzzed.
