Dry January is here again, and whether you're considering kicking the habit for a month or for good or just want to cut down, this could be just the thing.

Reviewers have been raving about a non-alcoholic drink they say makes you 'woozy and relaxed' but without the horrific hangover or headache the next day.

Maybe you've had one too many over the festive season, and just want to switch to something alcohol-free without feeling left out, sipping a lemonade in the corner.

The tipple was created by Professor David Nutt and his team, and is called Sentia Spirits.

They say it was designed as an 'effective alternative to drinking low levels of alcohol', as it mimics the same results as alcohol and your brain is tricked into feeling a little bit tipsy.

The professor told The Independent: “It’s a drink that is based on the science of alcohol, particularly the low doses of alcohol that relax you and make you more sociable.”

They describe it as "feel good today, feel good tomorrow," by avoiding the hangover.

How does Sentia work?

The expert says they are referred to as GABA spirits.

GABA stands for gamma-aminobutyric acid, which is an inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain, which is what triggers when you drink booze.

This range of drinks cleverly manage to activate the same neurotransmitter without the alcohol, and it makes you feel relaxed.

You don't get drunk, but get the relaxed, calm feel or what a lot of people refer to as a 'buzz'.

They're not entirely dissimilar to the highly popular CBD drinks which trigger the same neurotransmitter, but Sentia is much stronger.

There are several different flavours to try: Sentia Red, Sentia Black, and Sentia Gold.

The flavours are described as 'bold, complex, and intentionally different.'

Gold is hops, and schisandra, Black is ginseng and gingko designed to boost you without a caffeine crash, while Red is ashwagandha and passionflower for a relaxing nightcap.

Happy customers

Shoppers have been sharing their praise online.

“I bought these drinks to reduce my alcohol intake but still wanted the relaxed feeling, well, it works! Fantastic!” wrote one happy customer.

Another added “Definitely got a buzz, felt smiley and chilled almost immediately and stayed that way for quite a while. Felt fine the next morning too.”

Someone else added “A gentle buzz and a nice new addition to the drinks cabinet.”

"I feel a little woozy and relaxed...There is no hangover. In fact, I seem to have extra energy in the mornings."
