Need a laugh? Strap yourselves in for these hilarious tales of camping gone wrong

These campers might’ve fallen flat, but your batteries don’t have to.

Picture this: you’ve planned the perfect camping trip. The tinnies are chilling in the esky, the fire pit's ready for some marshmallows, and you're buzzing for a few days of switching off from the world. But then, it happens — pure, unadulterated panic. Your air mattress pump splutters its last breath, the 'portable' fridge goes far too warm, and the Bluetooth speaker dies faster than your old phone.

It’s chaos, and usually can be pinned to one culprit: a flat battery.

Look, we’ve all been there. But we don’t have to be. Before you chuck your entire setup into the nearest bin and swear off camping forever, there's a solution. Enter Battery World, on its glorious, charged-up horse. From finding the right deep-cycle battery for your fridge to a heavy-duty power pack for your pump, they've got the high-quality, reliable goods to stop your trip from turning into a full-blown disaster. And we spoke to a few Aussies who have experienced what a battery-related camping disaster looks like.

But, remember, Battery World has over 110 stores nationwide. So, no matter where you’re camping, a Battery World expert is never that far away. So whether you’re getting ahead of potential disaster, or perhaps trying to fix a little battery oopsie, Battery World is there to help.

To help steer you on the right track, here are some of the best (and worst) battery-related camping stories we were sent. Use these well.

Jamie, QLD

“Me and my missus were ready for our first big camping trip, and me being me, I wanted to prove that I had all my stuff well and truly together. I got all the gear, and I swear I packed everything — including what I thought were fresh batteries. The first night was mint — we used our headlamps to get camp set up in the dark because we made 50 pit stops on the way, and everything was sweet. But then, the next morning, we went to check the GPS, and nothing. I figure it's just the batteries, so I grab the spares, chuck 'em in, and still nothing. Panic sets in, and I try my phone — dead.

Turns out, I grabbed the wrong charging cable and all the "fresh" batteries I packed were actually just a bunch of old, used ones I had lying around the house. We ended up having a whole day wasted, all because of some dodgy batteries (or my dodgy ability to actually check that they were decent).”

If you’re ever in doubt, stop by Battery World to make sure you’ve stocked up on batteries that are high quality and dependable — there’s no point leaving it up to chance.

Amy, NSW

“We completely repacked the car after camping and went to head off to find our car battery was dead. A park ranger came by to help but the jump starter didn't work either.

“Turns out the actual battery was in the boot of the car (not the bonnet), and had to unpack everything again to jump it straight to battery, then repack it again and we were too scared to stop for petrol or food on the way home in case it broke down again.”

While one of Battery World’s experts could’ve told Amy where exactly her car battery could be located, she also could’ve stocked up on a spare — or called Battery World for roadside assistance who’d be able to fit a new battery for her right by her campsite.
