Man spent year doing 100 push ups a day and showed impact it had on body

A man who spent a year doing 100 push ups every day has revealed the impact it had on his body.

YouTuber James Stewart Whyte revealed how he decided to take on the challenge after struggling to commit to fitness during his time in college. In 2019, he wanted to focus on his health every day and made the decision to do 100 push ups each day to see if he could form a habit.

Like many resolutions, Whyte began his new routine on 1 January and tracked his progress through video diaries and before and after photos.

He explained: "It is January 1, 2019 and I am starting a new project.

"I'm going to be doing 100 push ups every day.

"I want to develop mindset where I do a little something every day to get me closer to a larger goal of being more fit, being more healthy."

Whyte explained that the first workout was pretty difficult, but he kept going, and every day completed his 100 reps.

In less than a month, it became an established habit and Whyte was able to add in extra exercises, such as 200 ab crunches, which he added in in February.

"The hardest part was doing it when I didn't want to, like when I got home late and still had to work out," he explained.

Whyte explained that beginning with 100 push ups was a manageable goal - he didn't need to leave the house, go to the gym or require any special equipment.

And while he did see progress, it was slow.

However, he did start to notice some obvious changes in the summer, and other people began to notice that he had built muscle, too.

Whyte then introduced six to eight mile runs, upped his protein intake and started increasing how much food he was eating.

In 2020, Whyte explained: "I'm roughly the same weight as I was a year ago, but more of that weight is muscle.

"I've noticed significant improvements in strength and stamina. Aesthetically, the results were not massive but there were results, from what I would consider a relatively small effort each day.

"... It's not about doing this for a year and being done, it's about living a lifestyle that's perpetually healthy.

"... Doing 100 push ups every day for a year proved to me that someone can see results where they didn't before by changing their approach."
