Woman left 'not knowing what to think' after buying lost luggage for £80 and looking inside

You can actually buy Heathrow Airport's lost luggage at auction, who knew?

Lost luggage is an absolute nightmare scenario. And what is potentially worse than that is the idea that someone could buy your suitcase with all your personal belongings.

Because newsflash, they can and they are doing so, with the trend having gone viral on TikTok.

Travellers do whatever they can to look after their belongings and making sure items aren't lost during transit.

From tying ribbons on to suitcases to make it identifiable, to picking something vibrant in colour to stand out on that carousel, people will do whatever is in their power to make sure their items don't get lost in the suitcase graveyard that is an airport's lost property lounge.

Don't forget the important of a tag, too, although be careful with what details you include on it.

Some times, though, it is out of your control and the bags go AWOL during the process of handing them over at bag check and them getting on to your plane to journey on to your destination of choice.

Well, if you can't successfully locate your goods, there's a big chance it is put for sale at one of a good few auction houses specialising in selling lost luggage.

See, the legal time frame that an airport has to keep hold of lost goods is three months. After that, it is released and usually sold for between £15 and £80, according to NotLost.

Anyone can buy from these. And that's exactly what one TikToker did.

Becky, who runs the @beckysbazaar TikTok channel, bought one of these suitcases last year and shared with her 400,00-plus followers exactly what she got for the money she spent or if it was, in her words, a 'scam'.

Costing her £80 for a suitcase from Heathrow Airport in London, she said: "I thought I'd open it on camera and we can see if it was worth it."

First up, the suitcase itself. A blue Delsey suitcase, they retail for more than £200 brand new, so not a bad start even though it was a bit scuffed around the edges. Clearly a well-travelled bag.

Opening the bag, it was clear as day it was a woman's suitcase due to the clothing inside, including brand new underwear.

Alongside some t shirts, including a Pink Floyd band tee, was a black bag from Primark and 'hundreds' of unused period pads.

The best find, Becky said, was a blue Tommy Hilfiger coat and some vintage Lee jeans, which are sure to have some resale value.

There was new clothing, too, with a couple of H&M t-shirts with tags attached as well as a tagged dress priced at $98.

Thinking she'd hit the jackpot, Becky came across a Guess handbag. Sadly for her, though, it was counterfeit.

"I was so skeptical about buying this because reviews say it is a scam," Becky said.

"I'm just not sure what I think. It's a little strange. There's no socks or shoes or other things you'd need for a holiday in this case.
