Going on a cruise holiday can be a once in a lifetime trip. Enjoying live entertainment, soaking up the sun on the deck, and taking in the sights as you sail across the seas.

Yes, a cruise holiday might be an experience you'll never forget, but let's face it, it's also a travel experience your wallet won't forget either.

But thank goodness the food and drink isn't too expensive, right? Ah, okay... maybe not.

According to a Reddit user who recently shared a screenshot of the Royal Caribbean room service app, it looks like they're about to get a new range of offerings with their room service.

Well, surely that's a good thing?

While having an extended room service menu should be a good thing, when you're looking at $22 (£16.50) for a pretty basic hot dog, it's easy for your appetite to suddenly go out the window.

If correct, it looks like the new extended Royal Caribbean room service menu will include the following:

  • The Royal Burger
  • Grilled Cheese
  • Hot Dog Your Way
  • Classic Philly Cheese Stick

Yes, I'm aware that I should have probably corrected the Classic Philly Cheese Stick to steak. But, they're professionals, who am I to say whether it should be a cheese steak or stick?

With the new extended menu not only boasting mouth watering meals, but also eye watering prices, many have wondered if this might just be a placeholder, instead of the final extended menu.

One user sarcastically replied: "Excellent! What our last cruise was REALLY missing was a $22 hot dog, so this is excellent news…"

While another user pointed out: "You know the tariffs are hitting hard when a grilled cheese sandwich is more expensive than a wagyu burger." Although, they too need correcting, it's a cheese stick, not a sandwich, obviously.

Not only did users notice the over-the-top pricing, a few of them also picked up on the rather odd wording included in the menu items descriptions. Examples include The Royal Burger, which is described as an '8oz Prime Wagyu, cheese masala is gravy is with onions'.

Or the classic grilled cheese, which is simply described as 'melted cheddar cheese' - I assume we can, you know, have some bread without melted cheese, right?

This has led to some Redditors to assume the app is in a testing phase, with one cruise-goer saying the app currently isn't working well for them while on board a Royal Caribbean ship.

The prices for room services might be about to hit the roof, but the good news is, you can still go for a nice walk, head on over to the buffet, and enjoy the complimentary buffet for free.

But, if you're a thrill seeker, go for it, order the room services and see if you get a Philly Cheese Steak, or if it is indeed a Philly Cheese Stick. Let me know which you get, I'm invested now.
