Shoppers Think Aldi’s 75p Fish Burgers Taste Just Like McDonald’s Fillet-O-Fish

Shoppers Think Aldi’s 75p Fish Burgers Taste Just Like McDonald’s Fillet-O-Fish

Aldi's buttermilk fish burgers are cheaper and less calorific too

Aldi shoppers are raving about the store's 75p fish burgers which apparently taste just like McDonald's Fillet-o-Fish - at a fraction of the price.

The bargain supermarket's Buttermilk Fish Burgers have been praised for their likeness to the fast food favourite from McDonalds. They come in packs of two for £1.49 - which is around 75p per burger.

The McDonald's fillet-o-fish will cost you around £3 in the UK - depending on if you have it as a part of a meal, and if that's a medium or large meal.

But you could pair Aldi's fish burgers with some french fries - 1kg bag for 64p - and recreate one of the McDonald's favourites for two people, for less than what Maccies charges for one.

"Splendid! Crispy, tasty and lots of fish (rather than breadcrumb). Stick them in a roll with tartare sauce a slice of that rubbery cheese that melts and some iceberg lettuce. So much better than a limp MC D filet," wrote one shopper on the Aldi website.

The Tasty Catch Co Mcdonald's equivalents from Aldi are said to be made from 100 per cent Alaskan pollock fillet, which is certified sustainably sourced. The fish is coated in a crispy buttermilk batter and the burgers can be cooked from frozen.

McDonald's Fillet-o-Fish - 75 per cent fish - are made from either white pollock or hoki and McDonald's also says their fish is sustainably sourced. The fish fillets are wrapped in a much-loved crispy breadcrumb coating.

Aldi's fish burgers have a third of the calories (188 calories) of a McDonald's Fillet-o-Fish (329 calories per burger including cheese and tartar sauce). So not only are you saving money, but if you're trying to shift some lockdown weight, then Aldi's fish burgers aren't quite as naughty.

Aldi fish burgers 'better' than McDonald's

If you like a bit of spice, Aldi's Southern Fried Fish burgers - also costing 75p a burger - have been rated five stars by shoppers.

Aldi shoppers haven't explicitly likened them to a popular fast-food meal, but they have gone down well. One customer went as far to say they were "better than any fast food fish burgers."

Likewise, there's the Aldi Tempura Batter Fish Burgers - again rated five stars by shoppers - which cost a mere 75p per burger. These too have been likened to the McDonald's Fillet-o-Fish and are 217 calories per burger.

You can pair any of these burgers with Aldi's British Tartare Sauce - just 41p for a jar. That's not even 1p per teaspoon, so dollop away!

We all love to find a supermarket alternative to our favourite fast-food meals. Let us know if you've come across any good ones.
