Australian A-lister Hugh Jackman has made the jump from on-screen hero to off-screen hero after saving his teenage son from a vicious riptide.

The scare happened on Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia, on Saturday, and was caught on video posted by 9 News Australia. It shows Jackman appearing to grab one man as he on to a girl.

The Les Misérables star then moved toward his son Oscar, 15.

A fellow witness, Peter Adam, told 9 News, Jackman's daughter, Ava, was also in difficulty, and said he was helping her at the time.

"(Jackman) wasn't rescuing me, I was assisting him to get his daughter up to the sandbar. He then grabbed my hand to get us up," Adam said. "He then went to get his son."

Oscar was soon pulled into a rescue surf dinghy and brought to shore. Lifesavers used boards and jet skis to make several other rescues
