It's easy to laugh at Dermot O'Leary. Why wouldn't you? He hosts the UK's shittest show.

But steady on there lads, it turns out he's the one laughing, because ol' Dermot has just become the highest paid star on TV thanks to that very shit show.

Yes, a new X Factor deal lasting four years will earn the presenter a cool £8 million.

A source told The Sun: "It's completely unheard of for one presenter to be paid £8 million to host one show.

"There hasn't been a deal like it since Jonathan Ross was getting millions a year from the BBC to host his chat show."

O'Leary left the show back in 2015, replaced by Caroline Flack and Olly Murs who had previously hosted the Xtra Factor.

The source added: "Simon may have had questions about Dermot's commitment before but he soon realised he'd made a mistake.

"Even a couple of weeks into the live shows last year, enquiries were being made out bringing Dermot back.

"He had to think long and hard about it because he was loving working on a wide range of projects, including... the BBC documentaries and his Radio 2 show.

"At the end of the day he loves X Factor and he was pretty much able to name his price.

Let's see if he can bring back the numbers they lost during the last series.

Let's also see who cares.
