Tributes for the late actor Bill Paxton still continue to pour in after his sudden death aged 61.

The actor was probably most well-known for his role in Aliens, but he also starred in Titanic, Apollo 13, Weird Science, Twister and The Terminator.

He died on Sunday due to complications during surgery and since then dozens of celebrities have taken to social media to express their shock and pay their respects.

HisTrue Lies co-star Jamie Lee Curtis wrote: "Nooooo. Bill Paxton is gone. Such a funny, talented, loving human."

And, last night, late-night chat show host Conan O'Brien dedicated a few minutes of his show to the star, including a touching tribute.

He said: "You hear that a lot (when people die) but everybody was unanimously saying, 'he was one of the nicest people I ever worked with', in addition to being incredibly talented. But I was thinking about this thing that I actually witnessed Bill Paxton do that made me realise they're absolutely right."

He then went on to share a story about the time he and Jason Chillemi, who works on The Conan O'Brien Show, and are both massive fans of Paxton's movie Tombstone, bumped into him at the theatre. O'Brien told Paxton that his friend was a huge Tombstone fan.

"He goes over to Jason and starts whispering in his ear," he said.

"Jason has a beard and it almost falls off. His eyes get big as quarters.

"I go over to Jason and I'm like, 'What the hell did he say'?"

Chillemi replied, "He just leaned over and recited to me, quietly, all of his lines from Tombstone."

"Who does that?!" O'Brien asks.

Other celebrities who took time out to pay tribute included Arnold Schwarzenegger, who starred alongside Paxton in True Lies, and The Terminator, and said: "Bill Paxton could play any role, but he was best at being Bill - a great human being with a huge heart. My thoughts are with his family."

Rob Lowe wrote: "Devastated by the sudden loss of my close friend and one of the finest actors in the business, Bill Paxton. Renaissance man, raconteur and uniquely American national treasure. His filmography speaks for itself. His friendship was a blessing. My love to Bunny, James and Lydia.

"In his memory, on this Oscar Sunday, watch One False Move or A Simple Plan to see this lovely leading man, at his finest."

He was also given a special mention at this year's Oscars.

A group of storm chasers also came together to make a tribute to Paxton, who played Bill Harding, a veteran meteorologist and storm chaser in the 1996 hit movie, Twister.

According to CNN, they used the Spotter Network, which uses GPS coordinates from registered 'storm spotters' and plots them on a map. A man called Daniel Shaw from Australia worked out where spotters would need to be 'plugged in' to make the tribute and storm chasers from across the globe got involved to make it happen.
