Prince Jackson, son of Michael Jackson, has opened up about growing up in the limelight.

In a recent interview with the LA Times, the 19-year-old son of the late singer Michael Jackson admitted he hasn't inherited his father's dancing or musical skills. He wants to be starting something else instead.

Prince cares more about being behind the camera. He's just finished directing his first music video for family friend Omer Bhatti, which should be a thriller, and started his own production company, aptly named King's Son Productions.

"Music is a big part of my life," he said. "It shaped who I am because of my family, but I've always wanted to go into production. My dad would ask me what I wanted to do, and my answer was always 'producing and directing'."

On the subject of those infamous masks Michael made his children wear to protect their anonymity, Prince said: "My dad spoke to me like an adult. He told us the reason for the masks was he wanted us to have our own life without him. I don't think I ever thought about if other kids lived like that when I was younger. But once I knew who he was, I realised it wasn't normal."

He revealed that his father once told him to 'trust no one' and be cautious of those wanting to associate with him simply because of his surname as it's human nature that people may try to exploit that.

Prince explained: "It sounds bad [insert pun here], but a lot of people are motivated by themselves. He said 'don't trust someone just because it sounds like a good idea - do your research'. There are a lot of people who want to interact with me just because of who we are." It was more of a case that Prince just had to say leave me alone to people quite a lot of the time.

"It was a shock," he said of Michael's death in 2009. "It all came at once. But [we] learned how to deal with it by just kind of ignoring it."

Prince is in a better place now, on good terms with his birth mother and despite not wanting to emulate his father's profession in the future, says he will never be ashamed to be linked with the King of Pop.

"I'm still young; my ideas can change. I can never be separated from my father - he set that big of an example," he added. "And I don't really have a problem with that. I'm proud to have his name and to be his son."

You are not alone Prince. MJ's musical legacy will live on for eternity.
